Buying used parts vs. new inflated DDR4 and GPUs

Hey people.

I am one click away from buying a 700 dollar Ryzen 1600/GTX1050ti/16GB RAM Editing System.(uprading from AMDx4 955 and GTX570 and 8GB RAM)

 

The more I think about it the more I ask myself: Why dont get a Intel i72600K + MOBO and OC, keep my RAM from my DDR3 system, get a used GTX770 and call it a day.

 

Anybody got opinions on that?

it depends on how much you will save, if you are comfortable with used hardware and that older hardware is enough for your needs.

I am editing and mostly color grading in Davinci Resolve. Mostly 1080p ProRes.

What is the best RAM speed for these applications? 

I know I need as much gpu memory (atleast 4GB)

fast CPU

but RAM besides the amount is a mystery to me.

If you can find a cheap, used X58 motherboard, I'd go with that. For RAM speed, I just go with 1600MHz+ for Intel.

id get 4th gen Intel, for $700 you could get an I7 4790K, decent Z97 mobo and have $400 or so left for a GPU

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

No both would be custom.

No. Bad.

 

The chip itself is still fantastic, but EOL products aren't worth supporting unless you already owned them or got them for free. My old 2500k is still good, but the original (and expensive) ROG Mobo died on me and when it came time for replacement, it was either settle on a locked budget keyboard from Amazon or eBay a used model. 

 

Fair enough except getting a model like what I had cost about the same as it did new and it was a 2011 part. What Mobo I did get was a budget MSI board that could OC and it started showing signs of unreliability just a few months in.

yah, there are some pretty major gains in performance if you are doing CPU stuff, both big IPC gains and clock speeds

I'd get the Ryzen system if it uses a motherboard that supports overclocking. It's a current platform with future CPU upgrades and the CPU itself outperforms all the old quad cores.
