Motherboard output or video card output?

Sir Launcelot

I am planning to purchase a video card (yeah right, i am looking for a decently priced one in this mining inflation) but my problem is I am still using a VGA monitor. Is it okay to still use the VGA output in my motherboard? Will my monitor still receive the gpu output? or should i purchase a converter?

purchasing a new monitor is out of the question. I don't have the budget yet to purchase a new one nor my parents won't support me getting a new one if the one I am using right now got no problem (lol).

No, using the output from the motherboard will use the integrated graphics

(also if you don't have a monitor that can take advantage of a better GPU, what's the point of getting a new GPU? Just save your money for a monitor that'll make the experience worth it, then get a GPU to match)

Main Rig: R9 5950X @ PBO, RTX 3090, 64 GB DDR4 3666, InWin 101, Full Hardline Watercooling

Server: R7 1700X @ 4.0 GHz, GTX 1080 Ti, 32GB DDR4 3000, Cooler Master NR200P, Full Soft Watercooling

LAN Rig: R5 3600X @ PBO, RTX 2070, 32 GB DDR4 3200, Dan Case A4-SFV V4, 120mm AIO for the CPU

HTPC: i7-7700K @ 4.6 GHz, GTX 1050 Ti, 16 GB DDR4 3200, AliExpress K39, IS-47K Cooler

Router: R3 2200G @ stock, 4GB DDR4 2400, what are cases, stock cooler

I don't have a problem...

commenting on these would make me tell my future plans. my computer is still like a gateway to the gaming. Its cheap since my parents chose and purchase the parts. Some online games like DOTA 2, LoL, and crossfire. Planning to purchase more games once I got a video card, I got my eyes on GTA V and PUBG.

1366*768 monitor resolution. budget? I can't comment on that yet.

I’d look for DP to VGA. HDMI to VGA tends to be iffy.

Main System: Phobos

AMD Ryzen 7 2700 (8C/16T), ASRock B450 Steel Legend, 16GB G.SKILL Aegis DDR4 3000MHz, AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB (XFX), 960GB Crucial M500, 2TB Seagate BarraCuda, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations/macOS Catalina

Secondary System: York

Intel Core i7-2600 (4C/8T), ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3, 16GB GEIL Enhance Corsa DDR3 1600MHz, Zotac GeForce GTX 550 Ti 1GB, 240GB ADATA Ultimate SU650, Windows 10 Pro for Workstations

Older File Server: Yet to be named

Intel Pentium 4 HT (1C/2T), Intel D865GBF, 3GB DDR 400MHz, ATI Radeon HD 4650 1GB (HIS), 80GB WD Caviar, 320GB Hitachi Deskstar, Windows XP Pro SP3, Windows Server 2003 R2

this is my dilemma. Either I postpone gpu for monitor or postpone a monitor for gpu. the solution I came up is since i have a monitor, I should use it much longer. Because i want to play in this as much as i can

yeah I still maintain that you should not buy a new GPU. Get the monitor you want to target first, then get the GPU once you have the $$ to use that monitor to it's fullest.

No point spending $ on a GPU that isn't going to be used to it's fullest

a 1030 will work with your monitor, games will run at full speed at that resolutions.

some 1030 still have vga output, if not you can get a cheap hdmi or dvi to analog vga adapter.

Buy GPU first, then the monitor if you want more resolutions.

I have 3 monitors one of them still use vga.

this could work right now since gpu are overpriced these days. but my target yet is the ability to play the games. aesthetics later

Well I don't remember what your config is right now, but I had a friend play on integrated graphics on a laptop for a few years  before I built him a PC (we play warframe, btw) so you should be able to get by for now.

But especially with prices high right now, and the fact that the GPU really wouldn't be giving you the full value since you wouldn't be using it to it's fullest, I still think that's the way to go.
