External DVD Drive That Reads PS3 Disks

I want to start doing RPCS3 emulation to play some PS3 games on my PC. I need an external DVD drive that reads PS3, does anyone know any that are fairly cheap?

No they have weird encryption, there isn't any way to use a ps3 cd on a PC, you could try finding some online which isn't really legal, but if you already have the game it's sort of ok from what a lot of people say.

There's an entire list of drives that read PS3 discs, just none of them are external.

Because Sony is a legal entity with IP to protect.

This isnt piracy.  The person is talking about taking games they own and using them via an emulator.

 

If they own even a broken PS3 they also have the right to use the firmware on the console.  No matter where they get the firmware from.

The maintenance and repair section can be applied to emulating a piece of hardware as has been seen in court cases, though the decision to allow that is on a case by case basis.

Using an emulator + BIOS dump for a console you own + Original game media = 100% legal.

There are more examples of it being legal if people just search around.

As for the OP's question, I'm not aware of one, except a quick search showcases the Lite-On DH-401S as being able to read them. You could use that to copy the files I guess, though I was never a PS3 owner so I can't speak for the process personally.

You can get an internal drive that is known to work and put it into an external 5.25" SATA drive bay.

While you legal eagles debate the moral and legal merits of this, I really have to wonder when one of you is going to realize that the PS3 only used Blu-Ray discs for game media, not DVD, so there's no such thing as a DVD drive that can read PS3 discs.
