AMD FX 9590

With the price drops on the FX 9590, it is currently only $4 more than a 4770k. Would it be worth getting (despite the TDP)?

Not really if you factor in that it actually under-performs vs the 4770K, you need a top of the line expensive motherboard on a dead socket and a liquid cooling solution. It all just comes out way much more expensive than getting the 4770K, you spend more on your power bill and actually perform worse.

might as well just get a 8350 and overclock it because that is all it is

The 4770K is faster. And you have to spend money on a fancy cooling solution for the 9590. And AM3+ is functionally a EOL'd socket, but Intel also retires their sockets every other refresh.

Doesn't really have to be fancy, last time i checked AIO a becoming quite mainstream....

Don't be hating on the power of a evo 212 and a 4770k :)

http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/62476-post-your-cinebench-r15-scores/?p=1201595

@ the OP. If you want to compare this to a 5ghz 8350 (which is what the chip you are looking at is), check here.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlC81MjwelBgdEZNV3l6aHl1eUNwSUR4Rml0MXMzN1E&usp=sharing#gid=0

You can still buy my CPU MB combo for 344 bucks at microcenter every day price. No SLI, but has crossfire. Like the other guy said, why waste money on an expensive cooler/motherboard when a dirt cheap z87 and a evo 212 can blow the doors off a 5ghz AMD chip. Add in the bigger power supply you need for the AMD CPU and the savings people believe in with AMD aren't really there.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AlC81MjwelBgdEZNV3l6aHl1eUNwSUR4Rml0MXMzN1E&usp=sharing#gid=0

Why do people think Intel is expensive? Because they still think you need a premium z board. You don't on Haswell. Buy the cheapest z87 MSI/Gigabyte/Asus/Asrock you can find that has SLI on it (if you need it, and you don't if your going r9 cards) and a 30 dollar cooler and you destroy a AMD chip. Get some on sale 1600 cl9 1.5 V and oc to 1833 and 2133 if timings are ok and GG. Your computer was cheap and blows the doors off someone who lost the silicon lottery on Haswel with a 250 dollar motherboard, If you want a sweet looking motherboard? Get a hexa core intel. At least that money will get you some extras.

Same with an I5 and a 8350. The intel is CHEAPER if you are going to OC it and want it to run well, because a decent 990fx aint cheap. AMD video cards on the other hand? Love em atm.

If you want to stream AND play games? Get the I7. Skip on the designer motherboards that are like painting flames on a Ferrari and the price isn't that far apart but the performance is. I really fail to understand how anyone can recommend an AMD CPU other then for someone on an extreme budget who wants to only play next gen titles. Then the 6300FX is ok.

I have the 8350 as you can see but I got it because it was €100 cheaper than the 4770.

If they were the same price then Intel all the way.

Nothing to see here - move along.

Its not worth it, for that price you can get an 8320, some baller cooling setup, OC the shit out of it and get the same performance.

Intel is not cheaper. Take a look at a 8320 + 990fx combo vs a 4670k + z87 and actually add up the costs. A decent 990fx mobo is around the same price as a decent z87 mobo. Intel isn't always better. Something like the 8350 will outperform the 4770k for 3d rendering when both overclocked.

Newegg are out of stock with good 990FX boards, so amazon was used.

I have no favorite CPU vendor, you should make your mind up based on performance and efficiency.

That 4770k is stock and beats the FX in almost all area's, plus that i7 has yet to be OC'd.

A motherboard only has to be decent to handle a high intel overclock usually, as the VRM's are no longer on the motherboard.

Intel is 5 doll hairs cheaper.

9590 is a fast chip if you want to get it. Just make sure you know what you're getting into, with the cooling and power requirements.

I suspect it will be as fast as the 4770K at stock, but the Intel will be faster once overclocked.

Just stick with the Intel Core i7-4770K. It's a faster processor and better performer all around.

Haswell is on average 6% faster than Ivy Bridge, which is on average 3-5% faster than Sandy Bridge, to call the performance advantage anemic is an understatement.
Ever since Intel cheaped out on the thermal interface, destroyed overclocking and stopped improving performance I completely lost interest in their products.

It's a shame but allows for delidding which is just another cool thing you can do like water cooling.

You know you can get a cheap 990fx board too. $180 for an 8350 and $120 or $130 for a motherboard is still cheaper than the 4770k buy itself. You aren't going to outperform the 4770k but now you are just talking about bech's. In most realworld aplications an 8350 or even cheaper an 8320 will do very well so it is cheaper to go with AMD. If you care about rocking the benchmark world then spend the extra cash, if not, don't. Sure I spent $230 on a CHVFZ but I didn't have too, it was a choice that I am very happy with. Intel is good AMD is good it's all about personal choices.

Intel 4670k, MSI Z97 Krait Edition, 2 x 4 Gbs G-Skill Trident X 2400 Mhz, CPU full W/C loop, Sapphire R9 290-flash to a 290x, Samsung 840Pro 128 Gb SSD, Seagate 1 Tb Hdd, Seasonic SS660x2 Platinum PSU, NZXT 2m white sleeved LED strip. 9 Fans all Corsair SP or AF except 1 80mm high speed for NB/VRM cooling. Corsair 750 full tower case.

Actually atm you can price match a 4770k for 249.00 at staples online (deal is from microcenter). I bought it for 50 bucks cheaper right before black friday and it was 280 with tax for MB and board. Now it would be 330 for the combo. 350 if you want a board that does SLI and not just crossfire (I am going ATI cards, so SLI wasn't needed).

330 for a OC board and 4770k and 300 for the 8350 and decent 990fx board with a rebate you may never get. I will take the 4770k.

Now factor in the 30 bucks extra for a better power supply (I could care less about the money saved per year on electricity where Intel comes ahead, I am talking about initial investment).

They are the same price, except the I7 clownstomps the 8350 at everything. I got my board and chip for CHEAPER then I could get a 990fx board and 8350. The normal price of that combo is 20 dollars more so 350. Again when you add in a bigger power supply? You are very close on price, but not close on performance.

Now I realize it must suck not having a microcenter near you, or live chat Staples skills to price match, but the Intel is the better buy imo. I also realize that in other parts of the world the Intel may be WAY more expensive. In the U.S. though? I wouldn't touch the 8350.
