See above for ARM.

Asus B350 Prime if you don't need super-high audio, or still the X370 Crosshair I said earlier if you want the audio.

All motherboards except the most cheap ones (which SUCK) are overclock-friendly, but you do not NEED to OC unless you want to.

Hello,

I wanted to build a PC for use primarily as a  Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) and also for gaming.

The components that I am definitely buying are :-

1) GPU - ASUS ROG-STRIX GTX1080TI 11Gb

2)Processor - AMD Ryzen 7 1800X

3)PSU - Be Quiet! Power 10 600W

4)Cooler - Be Quiet Dark Rock 3

5)Hard Drive - Seagate 2TB Firecuda Internal Hybrid Solid State Drive

6)Cabinet - Be Quiet Pure Base 600 Mid Tower

I am not going to change any of these components.

I am somewhat doubtful about the motherboard and the ram.

I will be gaming at 1440p on a 34-inch monitor so I don't think I will have any problem in gaming.

But for my Digital Audio Workstation, i am not sure what motherboard and RAM I should take as I don't know if I will have to overclock and how the RAM speeds make a difference.

My main concern is high performance in the Digital Audio Workstation so, please help me choose the motherboard and RAM.

I had these in mind:-

1)Motherboard - Aorus AX370 Gaming K7

2)RAM - 16GB G.Skill Flare X DDR4 3200

I'd go with the Asus Prime Pro x370 since that's what I have and it works flawlessly with the 1800x, the memory is good.

Ok for the RAM, but I'd suggest the Asus Crosshair top of the line for the audio quality, I/0 and build quality.

Also, I see no point in getting a 1800X. Get a 1700 and overclock.

FlareX are a good choice and probably the most good overclock-wise on a Ryzen platform, so go for it.

However, they aren't guaranteed to go to 3200Mhz like on a Intel platform with XMP. Ryzen is still a bit picky on the memory side.

A hybrid hard drive doesn't perform as well, and is not as economical, as the combination of an SSD with a seperate HD. Buying a 1080ti now is not justifiable. Wait a few weeks. Also, there are new AM4 boards coming out in a few weeks too, which should offer you more options. I'd suggest waiting until then. As for RAM, something like Crucial Ballistix Sport LT 2666 is a decent enough buy, as you can overclock it to around 3000 or 3200 Mhz on many boards quite easily.

Kingston Fury 2400Mhz if you want the best budget choice. Corsair/G.Skill if you want the best quality. Anything higher than 2400Mhz is considered overclock on a AM4 platform right now.

Then go for it but, again, new motherboards are about to come out and you're better off waiting for those, even if you buy the 1080 now.

I was thinking about a Corsair Vengence Lpx 2400mhz.

do not get any board bellow a x370 prime pro, their vrms are too weak, and will need active cooling to survive, especially if you overclock

you are seriously gimping the gaming performance in Ryzen by going with 2400mhz, especially with a 1080ti. I appreciate you don't want to overclock but heres some info

http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/amd_ryzen_7_agesa_1006_performance_update_review,8.html

Some games are upto 30% faster simply going from 2133 to 3200mhz

If you don't wanna overclock then ye, the 1800X is best choice - were a community that likes bang for buck so we choose the 1700 as it clocks to 3.8ghz on air and 3.9ghz on water with ease.

But honestly and I know you said you're set on components, but please consider this if you don't want to overclock:

Grab an intel 8700 and a H370 board (of even 8700k/z370 if you want a little extra performance with option to o/c later) which will also offer more performance in games

CPU: Intel - Core i7-8700K 3.7GHz 6-Core Processor  ($378.89 @ OutletPC)
Motherboard: Asus - ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING ATX LGA1151 Motherboard  ($183.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: Team - Night Hawk RGB 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($207.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $770.87

If you are 100% set on Ryzen which you seem to be (i have it its pretty good) then I would honestly 100% look to at least do a marginal overclock, the memory needs 3200 and if 3200 it should be CAS 14

CPU: AMD - Ryzen 7 1800X 3.6GHz 8-Core Processor  ($345.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: ASRock - X370 Taichi ATX AM4 Motherboard  ($154.99 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill - Trident Z 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory  ($228.99 @ Newegg)
Total: $729.97

Great board, good VRM's the only other real competitor is a the Crosshair VI which is + $60 and not worth it at all. CAS 14 DDR4 3200 has much less compatibility issues with Ryzen, it costs more but if you don't want the hassle, its worth it

TLDR - If willing to overclock the ram go with Ryzen and take the hit on slightly less FPS in gaming. If zero overclocking, go with the intel build and just run XMP 3200 ram (which is still overclocking but simple with no teething issues unlike Ryzen)

If you don't need it immediately i'd wait for Zen2 that's due in late March/April
