Phototshop PC

Yo.

My mom is currently practicing the art of Photoshop and Lightroom on a really crappy 2004 laptop, where it takes 5 minutes for a single edit to register. She wants a new PC for PS & LR that will no bottleneck her in any way, that is future-proof and just all together awesome, with a STRICT budget of 1500$.

I came up with these:

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/user/KingOz/saved/2mhrHx

thoughts?

She doesn't need a lot of storage as she stores 90% of her photos on external hardware.

Note that this is strictly for PS and LR, and not for anything else, so I don't need a sick GPU or anything. I will plan on overclocking the ryzen GPU.

Cheers,

Between the two I'd choose the 8400. However, I would wait a month or two for the cheaper 300 series boards to launch.

Make sure to quote me or tag me when responding to me, or I might not know you replied! Examples:

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Photoshop doesn't take advantage of many threads well and is reliant on fast cores.

The GT 730 uses DDR3 and would be worse than integrated graphics on the cpu in many cases.

Something like this would be better: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/ZYLPm8

If she doesn't need a lot of storage, forgoing the hdd and having a single 500GB ssd instead would be quieter and allow for a larger scratchdisk: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/ft8j4D/crucial-mx500-500gb-25-solid-state-drive-ct500mx500ssd1

Does photoshop need lotsoram?

It depends on what you're doing but the answer is generally yes. Depending on what's being done, it's easy to utilize 16GB or more.

Why the powerfulish GPU. She doesn't need that.

Photoshop and Lightroom can both use the gpu for acceleration and having enough vram can be helpful when working with larger image files. You don't need a particularly powerful gpu but don't use a graphics card that uses DDR3 unless you're doing very light work.
