CPU and GPU usage issues.

hedghehog

When playing games such as PUBG I’m only getting about 50% CPU and GPU usage. (See attached) I get 20-60 frames and performance is overall pretty bad. The performance does not change when comparing ultra to very low but usage goes up to 70-80% when on ultra for both CPU and GPU

I have a GTX 1050ti and a AMD Athlon x4880k.

I hve seen other other people with the same setup getting much higher frames than me.

20-60fps with an 880k sounds right, your cpu is outdated and honestly cant run pubg

But why isn’t it using 100% of it

use something like msi afterburner to monitor usage, the windows task manger never reports correctly

is getting 20-60 frames really that bad?

I have a Radeon R9 200 series GPU and an i3-4130 Quad Core and I think I get around 30-70 frames on medium settings. (Fullscreen though) I ain't too knowledgeable in these area's yet to know if the CPU your running outperforms mine or doesn't but playing a game like PUBG will strain your CPU as far as I know plus by looks of things your GPU is being shared over other applications as well.

Some people prefer a challenge, I just band my head against a wall until my method works...

I think your usage drops when you bring up task manager. PUBG is now in the background. Just like your GPU dropped to 17%. You'll need to monitor it while the game is up and running to get the full picture. Afterburner is a good tool to use.

Run everything in th back ground and go back it after a game. Also use the performance tab, that way it will show it over time along with memory usage.

Id say 60 FPS is bad, especially for pubg.

Still need gpu and memory. Run unigine heaven or valley and ensure the gpu is reaching 100% there.

It depends on how the game uses the CPU. If the game isn't fully utilizing all the cores, then the game won't maximize the CPU but still hit a performance bottleneck. And if the CPU has a performance bottleneck, it may not fully saturate the GPU with work.

On the flipside, the game may not also be coded to best saturate the GPU with work.
