Been reading about the Retros, seems to be a good price performance can, but it seems to be outta stock everywhere (due to sale at about 16USD). If OP can wait for new stock to be replenished, then hell yeah, go get it but you'll have to pay 30USD. For movies, I love my Denon AH-D7000/D2000 as well as my Grado GS1000i, there's something sublime about the bass of the Grado that I simply cannot put into words. The Modded Fostex T50Rp is great fun too....

Well, the Superlux HD 668b (around $30) has wonderful bass. It's just that the headband has to be bent to fit your head. And the treble is sharp. So you have to jam some toilet paper in the ear pads. And the pads are rock hard and don't go completely around the ear.  These three problems make it a hard sell, but the bass is fantastic!

Surprisingly, of my numerous cans, the one with the most bass is my on-the-go Klipsch Image One BT (can use wired mode as well). It's surprisingly boomy and does muddy up the mids, treble is also lacking (to me anyway). But it's a fun can for movies, especially for movies with lotsa explosions and loud, bassy sound effects.

Edit - Just FYI, I'm NOT recommending the Klipsch Image One BT, I was simply making conversation.....:S

Nah, wasn't recommending it, just mentioned it and the Denons as part of my fun cans for movies (just making conversation). I did basically tell the OP to get the Retros when it's back in stock, didn't I?:P:D

Actually, I wouldn't mind getting a Retro for myself, but since I'd be moving to a small apartment in a couple of months' time, I've decided to put on hold any more purchase for the time being.

Oh true. I’m actually kicking myself for not buying them at Black Friday for $16.

The Superlux 681's bass is phenomenal, for any headphone at any price. Period. But it has the worst treble I ever heard on a headphone. Max sibilance. Hearing loss.

So...good question.

Haven't had the chance to try the Superlux 681 and the Retro, but I got curious as to which of my cans has the greatest boom. I tried out all my cans, including my bassier ones like the T50RP/ATH-A900X Ltd/Denon AH-D2000, and whatever portable over-ears (supra aural) I have and it turns out my Klipsch Image One BT has, to me anyway, damn near basshead level bass. I was listening to Rita Ora's Anywhere as my test song (it has a nice bass line chorus, or whatever the heck it's called) and the Image One BT fairly vibrated even at not crazy loud volume. True, my other cans presented nice, tight bass and they were pretty enjoyable but the Image One Bt put all of them to shame, but it did muddy up the mids and treble was pretty laid back as well.

The 681 EVO also has great bass but it sounds muffled. There's nothing really wrong about it. It's as if Superlux overcompensated for the murderous treble of the 681.

Would you agree that Monoprice retros have better bass than 681/evo/668b and better overall??
