Thermal Paste Overkill?

AMDKilla

So I just removed the cooler from my Palit GTX970 Jetstream to fit a Corsair HG10 N970 and H55 AIO. Is it normal to have this much TIM paste from the factory, or is it likely the previous owner of the card got a little happy with the paste?

From what I've heard, gpu s generally have more thermal paste than cpus, so I would say that thats normal

it doesn't matter now though does it xD

Looks to be favoring the latter, although GPUs tend to like a little more compound than CPUs so it's not really a big IMO as long as it's unable to short anything on the PCB.

I questioned it because I can't say I've seen Linus or Luke put this much paste on anything other than possibly an i9 :D

The syringe said "single use only" xD

nope, that's just fine.

i made the mistake once of only using a pea size drop on my gpu which resulted in a 15degree increase

I used a grain of rice sized blob on this and I’ve gone from 50c idle to 25c. Pretty happy with that as a result
