It only goes in one way, so it might just have that much friction behind it that you need to put extra force on it.

 

Can you take a photo of it?

I don't know if that'll help but here. I don't really have a use for the cord because I don't really care that much about the noise unless it's like gunfire

It's a friction fit anyway so it's better tight than loose.
