SLI WONT WORK :(

my mate give me his asus strix gtx 970 and i already have a evga sc 970, ive put them both in using 1 sli bridge.  still says sli disabled in nvidia control panel   can anyone help

RAMPAGE IV

 16 GB RAM

are you seeing both cards in nvidia control panel and just cant enable it or are u only seeing one card

borth cards are there, just wont let me enable sli

Did you restart the system? AFAIK SLI needs a restart to turn on

things ive done 

1. swap the cards around

2. using another sli bridge 

3. using 2 sli bridge

4. uninstalling and re installing drivers  

5. resting bios

6. unplug the sli bridge and re plug and reboot

7. restarted the pc every time i re plug the sli bridge.

thats really wierd i know this is dumb but i have done it myself but are u using an actual SLI bridge and not crossfire they look stupidly close and it can be easy to get them mixed up

yep it says sli on it  i have also tried another sli bridge still nothing cant enable sli but both cards are there both at 16x3.0

only other thing i can think of it maybe some wierd bios setting but i have worked with that board quite a bit and dont remember having to adjust anything when i was running 3 way 660tis

m8 i may have a shade of light on your situation u probably have a faulty SLI prong on one of your 970’s try looking for physical damage on the prongs and hope for the best it’s just a bit of corrosion and nothing but a bit of alcohol will fix

or probably you’re motherboard just has a faulty PCIE lane used the same MoBo before and it had no problem running 2 980 ti’s

cant be the mobo because i was using r9 290 CF  on it same slots,

one of the cards pong are brand new never used, second card just came from another sli setup was working fine for him

well can it probably be ur PSU it might not supply ur 2 970’s enough or correctly

well the r9 290s draw a lot more power, i think the Corsair RM850 is more then enough for sli 970s

Power won’t matter if the system is booting. If they aren’t the same it may not work. 970’s were picky about that. Assuming you aren’t on windows vista

the EVGA SC came from a working sli setup, 

the other card is the asus strix 970 brand new

he sold the other 970, hes gonna bring his 1080S on monday will try that.
