New Sennheiser HD820

Hey guys, the price of new high end cans just keeps going up! Sennheiser has just intorduced their new flagship, the HD820 and it's a whopping $3500! Looks damn good though, it's on pre-order now in case you're dying to spend a wad load of cash. It does look great though, with that unmistakable HD800 design....

And is it basically nothing more than a closed HD800S? Which basically just required a whole bunch of driver tweaking.

I feel like the glass was stupid. I feel like it would introduce a whole host of problems with reflections that had to be sorted out, all for a little bit of looks.

Yeah, $2,400 and they just look like a fancied-up closed HD800S with a 30% MSRP mark up.

Not to mention scratches. I was going to say breaking, but I feel like most people who have $2400 headphones would be careful enough with them where that wouldn't be a problem.

Oops, my bad, that 3500 was prolly the local price. Still, it's pricier than the HD800S.

we already saw leaks about this mid last year, but they are finally done now.

 

They are 800 more than HD800S, but I am very afraid of them being worse than the HD800S, because that is what happened with the K812 and K872.

 

It is certainly interesting, but I don't really see why they made them.

ugh... Why won't sennheiser make flagship planars or electrostatics (that aren't 50,000 dollars)... To me, spending this kind of money on headphones that are still just regular dynamic driver headphones is a bit ludicrous.

Because playnars have screwed staging and ringing. Next estat they are releasing is probably the baby orpheus 2 but it's not out yet.

In light of MrSpeakers VOCE (electrostatic) at 600USD more than the HD820 (that's right, 3000USD!!!), I think the smarter move would be to wait for reviews of both before getting either. As for myself, the VOCE may be my first step into the world of electrostatic cans. But it'd be many months before I'd even consider getting it.....hopefully, it'd be my end-game can. It sure as heck looks bada$$.
