Sound Card?

md23

I was wondering if a sound card would be worth it. My main use for my pc that I am making is gaming and I really want the full experience with sound. Am I ok using my motherboard or case input, or better off going with a sound card. Thanks

Why can't we be friends.

This should be in the Audio subforum. http://linustechtips.com/main/forum/40-audio/ You will get much better answers there.

Depends.

We could use more info like what headphones/mobo you have.

No, unless you're doing music production it's not.

External devices and onboard on a respectable motherboard is superior. Whether or not your onboard is good enough depends on what headphones you use. It's largely irrelevant for speakers.

Sound cards make ALL the difference. Game creators often put as much effort into the audio as in the video.

People will say that you need good headphones to tell the difference, i have found this untrue. Although good headphones help, the difference is still noticeable.

You should keep in mind though, you get EXACTLY what you pay for. In general, pay more than half of what you paid for your mobo and you will see a difference.

NOPE IMO sound cards are not worth it (i have a FiiO e10 and ASUS DG sound card) and it think the extra money would be better spent on better headphones... unless the headphones you want to get needs more power than what your onboard and provide.

unless the headphones you want to get needs more power voltage than what your onboard can provide.
