My friend is on a 350$ budget, extremely tight, I came up with this https://www.ebay.com/itm/302495463987?var=601326385815 an i5 2400, 16gb ram, 1tbhdd, win 10 pro, all for 230$ my question is if he saved up a little more and got a 1050ti would it work, (i also have a 450w psu for him to use) since today i also tried upgrading my brother hp with an i5 2400 and a gt 620, i tried to put a 1030 but would not boot into windows (theres no bios updates to help with that)

i know the psu upgrade isn't necessary i just want to get rid of this psu and it would give him more options in the future, so the dell mobo and the gpu will be happy together even though the hp wasnt?

There's no reason why the HP wouldn't work with the 1030 either. You have some troubleshooting to do.

Although the 1030 is a complete waste of money anyway.

This is a whole other topic that I won't open up here beyond saying that you are 100% wrong. The 1030 and 550 have specific but important use cases.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.

then what can i do? ive tried resetting cmos with the 1030 in and that didnt work

It shouldn't have anything to do with your BIOS settings anyway.

You say it "won't boot into Windows" - do you mean it crashes when trying to load Windows, or do you actually mean the PC won't POST?

Have you tried it in another PC?

OK. Have you tried seeing if the 1030 works in another PC?

What is the model number of the HP? Maybe try doing this: http://nvidia.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/3156/~/when-installing-an-after-market-graphics-card-into-a-certified-windows-8-pc

but will the dell one accept the 1050ti now that we have my brothers pc issue out of the way

You need to quote people so they know who you're talking to and that you've responded. Did you watch the video I posted of my GTX 1080 running in the same Optiplex 790 you linked? YES, a 1050ti will run in an Optiplex 790.

Your friend or your brother. Although I thought the topic was for your friend.

Windows 10 does not need to be activated and is free that way. As old as Sandy Bridge is, I would not run any less than the i7. DDR3 RAM is relatively cheap on ebay.

This is what I would do if it were my brother or friend.
