Asus GPU Fan Service Ex.exe not working

May just be me, but I feel like rolling back a critical security update to fix a third party software bug is generally not a good idea. I am having this same problem, fixed by using MSI Afterburner, hope ASUS creates a fix for this on their software soon.

It must be tied to the fan curve because when I change it to manual or user defined they work as usual again but in fan curve mode they dont work? Also if you have this bug and you use manual or user defined open GPU tweak whenever you turn your computer on or have it as a start up app because they wont spin until the program opens :D

Ive just done an install of this and still receiving the issue - I might uninstall it and reinstall it.

Edit: I uninstalled then reinstalled. Error has now gone away! :)

I made it work...

Start by uninstalling the old GPU Tweak II

Reboot

Install the new one (run it as administrator)

Reboot again

--> WIN! <-- Now it works... Or at least it does on my machine.

Windows 10 64bit

I'd try a fresh install after uninstalling it or you might be overwriting files n stuffs which can cause bugs.

Did you completely remove the old version first?

I can confirm this does indeed work.

1. Uninstall GPU Tweak II

2. Restart

3. Download the newest version of GPU Tweak II from Asus - https://rog.asus.com/downloads/

4. Extract the folder (GPUTweak2_Ver1605_20180110) from the .zip file.

5. Right click on the setup.exe, "Run as Administrator".

6. Restart

Issue resolved.

Because Windows released the new security patch KB4056892, this is most likely creating a conflict for the application, which was installed without administrative rights due to being install directly out of the .zip file. Significant applications such as GPU Tweak should always be run as an administrator, thus ensuring the program is trusted.

  • 2 weeks later...

It's still busted for me, unfortunately.  I uninstalled, deleted the entire install directory, rebooted, reinstalled as administrator, rebooted again...  error message still appears.  Tried a second time, even downloaded a fresh copy from the website, still no go.  Win 10 64 bit, Strix-GTX1050ti, Gigabyte AX370-Gaming K5 mobo.

Oh, I did extract the files from the .zip file before running setup as well.

I also have the same issue, and nothing worked with the possible solutions above. I've an AMD Threadripper system... maybe is that the case?

I was having this same issue, I just did an update that was supposedly released on the 31st? January 31, 2018—KB4058258 (OS Build 16299.214) after rebooting my computer the message did not appear and seems to be working fine now.  Please let me know if it works for you!

  • 3 months later...

Update:  About a week ago I did a wipe/reload of Windows 10 to fix an (apparently) unrelated problem.  The error message no longer appears, even though I'm using the same driver and support software as before.  Go figure.
