BF4 GPU under $200?

electroball09

Yea, so I'm building a computer for Christmas, and right now I've got ~$200 in my budget for a GPU.  I was thinking about the Asus R9 270 (from Anandtech's "Best GPU 2013" article), but I want to get a few opinions on whether I can get a cheaper card and get the same performance, or a slightly more expensive one and get a boost in performance.  Nothing fancy, 1080p, and I'd like to get 60fps on med-high settings.

Well my 660Ti runs bf4 on Ultra(no AA) with 70ish fps (i capped em to 60 to keep it permanent) eventhough on 64 player servers it sometimes dips to mid 40ish

Whats your 660Ti clocking at?

My Gigabyte 660TOC-2GB is clocking at 1245Mhz and a memory clock of 3540Mhz(on air ofc without passing 60ish degrees)

I must admit my Card is a beastly Overclocker...

GTX 660 or a Radeon 7870/7850, are your best choices for $200 dollars. If YOU love Nvidia (For all their features, and epic drivers) Like me ;) then get Nvidia, if you like AMD then get AMD.

Damn... My 680DCU OC is at 1267mhz about 82 Celsius, the ti is beastly, you pretty much have a 670 there performance with I bet.

OT at this price range deals, promotions, used?, and rebates are your friend. There are literally a million GPU benchmarks about how anything from Intel HD4000 to quad 780ti's play this game. Look for a good deal on the best card you can afford. For example I saw a 7970 down at like 219 last month with rebate.

Irrelevant, AMD of old is not what the company is like now :P

Radeon 7870/7850 for sure. You are wanting to play BF4 aka an AMD optimized game + its mantle supportive.

Get a AMD card 100% (starres at Mantle-API) a 7870/7850 should do the job easily

hmm. my friends gets 50-60fps ultra settings on 3570K @ 4ghz  16gb 1866 mem 120gb SSD with MSI 680 Lightning. so idk how the 660TI is beating that.

You sure he doesn't have supersampling turned up or AA to some ungodly number? I'm using a 660 Ti 3gb along with a 3570K at stock clocks, and I get smooth as butter gameplay on ultra at 2560x1440. I'll fire up BF4 in a minute and edit this post with my exact settings. Keep in mind, Shadowplay doesn't agree with this game, and I get substantial framerate drops and microstuttering with it on.

I'd say R9 270. Or 7870 if you can get that cheaper. 7950 is becoming rare so you probably won't find one for $200. On the NVIDIA side, 660, 660Ti and 760 seem viable.

My Ti is baller and definitly runs as fast as a OC'd 670. My CPU is Oc'd to 5.03GHz on my Dark Rock Pro 2, so there's no need to call out that the 3570k runs at 4 GHz, hence Bf4 is heavily Multithreading optimized. My Game also runs off of my 512GB crucial M4 SSD. Your Friend shall really update his drivers, and OC his 680...

Well Supersampling 100% as usual, and AA off? In my Opinion there is no need for AA at 1080p when sitting further then 30 cm away from the Display (atleast i cant really tell the diffeerence on good gaames..)

I noticed the headpipes on the asus 270 were smaller than the ones on the 270x, should that keep me from getting a 270?
