i7 8700k clock speed issue.

When I start up my PC my CPU clock speed turbos up to the max speed set in my BIOS (4.7Ghz) but then after a few minutes it goes back to 3.7Ghz max, it only started to do this a few days ago and I have not changed any settings whatsoever, any idea on what could be causing this?

Kinda related, kinda not. I recently got a GTX1080 and have been running it at 60fps g-synced coz thats my monitors rr. When running afterburner it would often drop to 45fps. The fps counter built into the monitor still read 60fps. Point being that afterburner was the cause of my random gpu throttling.

4.7 is the max turbo and 3.7 is the base. I'm guessing it's just switching between the two.

Before when idle my max clock would be 4.7Ghz and min 800MHz, now even when at a high load it doesn't budge past 3.7Ghz.

It doesn't switch back though, it reaches 4.7Ghz when I turn my PC on but then it never goes past 3.7Ghz after a few minutes, this started happening out of nowhere and the temps are fine.

Try clearing CMOS
