Is my friends power supply dead

So my friends power supply from what he told me, kinda overheated & died out on him when he was playing some games on steam. When he tried to turn it on, it turned on for a split second & then turned off. Is his power supply completely dead? & if so, what new power supply should he get

A system powering for a split second then turning off usually refers to a motherboard or CPU issue, but it could be a PSU issue. Can you give us all specs?

There is a way to test the PSU, independently of the board, which I would advise so that you don't risk anything else getting fried:

Oh, the TR2 is pretty shit. Definitely not a bad idea to replace that.
