Hello. Building a new PC currently and was going to use a i7-8700. Reasons been that I'm worried about overclocking, and the cooling should be easier.

After looking at pricing, the price difference between the two CPUs is not much. I was going to use a third part cooler anyway, so wasn't going to use the 8700 stock one

I was hoping to use the Cooler Master MasterAir MA410P with the 8700.

What do you think about getting the 8700k with that cooler? I don't want to overclock like mad, if at all. The only other price difference I guess would be faster RAM, but I don't think its that much.

I could go for the MA610P to help, but it all adds up. If I can use the 8700k with the MA410P then that is probably what I'll do.

Also, I was going to use a 650W, which I have, but found a really good price on a 750W, so should have plenty of power, and I will of course have no option to go Z370 currently, so that's no difference.

Just wondering peoples thoughts. Main point been, I don't want CPU temperature issues...

The computer is for gaming and occasional video editing. The 8700 would be great, but for an extra £30.00 for the K if would seem daft not to?

So for the 8700k the cooler seems OK for minor overclocking but you will need a z370 board for 8700 or 8700k.

the i7-8700 is basically a lower clocked and locked CPU, so if you opt for the K SKU it would be a minor performance boost (if you don't overclock the 8700K). the stock clock at i7-8700K is 3.7 GHz, can go up to 4.9GHz on Air (your mileage may vary) tho

Thanks for the replies. Yeah, I noticed the stock freq was higher, so I guess will run hotter also, and consume more power!

I don't want to get heat issues for a little more performance... I don't think I would notice the improvement so prob go with 8700...

Many thanks

that cooler looks fine for the 8700. People underestimate how hot the 8700 runs, you'll likely have to undervolt it on that cooler, no reason to run it at 1.3v when it will do fine at 1.2v

I rather go for i5-8400 if you want lower wattage and maxed out performance

I'm with @xg32. You are fine with cooler for both CPUs and maybe with low OC. But you need to take care of voltages either way. Intel has had these issues before where stock voltage settings are too aggressive.
