Nvidia thinks theyre avoiding moore's law; they really aren't

Prof

While Nvidia may feel like they are fixing the problem of Moore's law with Volta: they are essentially adding another processor. If it really was the solution to quantum tunneling, I feel like it probably would have been done by a team of physicists rather than a group of NvidiaCorp employees. What is your opinion on 'Gpu Extension'?

Well I've heard in the past Moore's law is already kinda dead so maybe they are avoiding it.

as in no one can keep up with the law

My understanding is that the slowing of Moore's law has more to do with the silicon used to manufacture each processor than anything else. Kinda to be expected considering how long we've been using silicon. There are alternatives out there that should bring Moore's law up to speed, it's just a matter of cost.

but they actually shrank the manufacturing process to 12 nm, so well they did something. The problem with Moore's Law is that it does not specify when it ends and it has to end at some point. We probably are not at that point yet, but we are at that point with silicone because the position uncertainty of electrons in silicon is in the nm region.
