Hello,

There's some old PC with 10 pin motherboard header. Since it runs ancient software I can't just change it to new one.

Its mouse adapter broke. Some of the pins went inside.

Problem is that adapter I have is 9 port, not 10.

I've been told to make a hole in place where 10th port should be(seems reasonable, but need specific tools) or just cut off 10th pin on motherboard(which doesn't seem reasonable, but who am I to know). Any thoughts?

Are you sure the motherboard header has all 10 pins? Considering a DB9 serial port has 9 pins (in the name) it'd be logical. You'll have to figure out the proper orientation before cutting a pin off the board though. A ground pin would be okay to remove, but be careful. I'd rather ruin the plastic than the board.

PC Specs - AMD Ryzen 7 5800X3D MSI B550M Mortar - 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB DDR4-3600 @ CL16 - ASRock RX7800XT 660p 1TBGB & Crucial P5 1TB Fractal Define Mini C CM V750v2 - Windows 11 Pro

go to a electronics parts shop of your trust and get a replacement for the broken socket. Cut the cable, remove the old one, connect the cable to the new one, either with crimping or with soldering, then screw the new socket back in the bracket...

More work, but probably the cheapest solution...

Else same shop other department, another adaptor that works,

Main System:

Anghammarad : Asrock Taichi x570, AMD Ryzen 7 5800X @4900 MHz. 32 GB DDR4 3600, some NVME SSDs, Gainward Phoenix RTX 3070TI

System 2 "Igluna" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

System 3 "Inskah" AsRock Fatal1ty Z77 Pro, Core I5 3570k @4300, 16 GB Ram DDR3 2133, some SSD, and a 2 TB HDD each, Gainward Phantom 760GTX.

On the Road: Acer Aspire 5 Model A515-51G-54FD, Intel Core i5 7200U, 8 GB DDR4 Ram, 120 GB SSD, 1 TB SSD, Intel CPU GFX and Nvidia MX 150, Full HD IPS display

(Abit Fatal1ty FP9 IN SLI, C2Duo E8400, 6 GB Ram DDR2 800, far too less diskspace, Gainward Phantom 560 GTX broken need fixing)

Might be plan B.

______________

I wonder if by using more adapters(or different ones) I could conect USB or PS2 mouse to it?

would that work?
