Is it the same as normal but just with 1 fan?

It is also angled differently to allow for better motherboard compatibility with the PCI-e slots and I think it has slightly higher ram indents (check it out on the website though)

I used Vengeance LPX  https://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820233859&cm_re=corsair_vengeance_lpx_16gb-_-20-233-859-_-Product
on a recent Ryzen build with the NH-D15 without any problems. You are aware that the fan on the ram side can be installed higher on the cooler ? Be aware that a high fan might prevent you from closing the case if it's not large enough.

Thanks a lot for your input. My case has a 170mm CPU cooler height clearance and the Corsair Vengence LPX Dimms are 34mm. According to the website, the NH-D15 is 165mm and 31mm ram clearance. Would this mean that if I raised the fan by 4mm I would have 1mm of clearance on each side? Thanks btw.

Ok, I doubt very much it would fit.

My fan is as close to the ram modules as possible and it's 174 mm above the PCB (witch is usually 1.6mm thick) for a total of around 176mm. I have a define R5 with 180 mm cooler clearance and it's a tight fit.

Maybe you could use a 120 mm fan instead of the 150 mm on the ram side, in this scenario the tip of heat pipes would be the highest point at 165 mm above the PCB.

In that case, I would probably use watercooling if I am going to have to spend an extra $20 on a fan for the nh-d15. Do you know any other cpu air coolers around that price and tier?

Photo above shows the D15 and how I have to raise one of the fans above G.Skill TridentZ. It sticks up quite a bit compared to the other fan, so could be a problem in smaller cases. If you clock on the Coffee Tasting link in my sig, that's an earlier photo of the same system with Corsair Vengeance ram. Lower ram, so doesn't stick up as much.

Alternatively, you could move that fan to the far side, but in a typical case layout it would be rather close to any rear exhaust fan.

D15 heatsink has 44mm clearance. That will fit most of the RAM sticks. It's the fan which makes difference. As said you can move fan to other side or get S version with single fan. Or you can lift fan as much as your case allows it.

Yes, watercooling makes sense.

I'm not too familiar with the cooler market atm so I wouldn't be able to help you for alternate choices.

I just remembered that video (D15 with 1 fan) using the D15 in define R3 (165mm cooler clearance). He's using only the middle fan. I was originally planning on using that case  I had my old system in.

There are some results here on using only one fan.

I was going for as silent as possible and I must say coming from an AIO 120mm, that D15 gets all the praise it deserves. My 1700X (not overclocked yet except for Ram at

3466MHz) get around 53C (room temp is only 17C) with fans at ~750RPM running a couple hours of prime95. If I push the fan to 1400RPM, It gets down to around 47C. Theses temperatures are coming from the ryzen master software.

I have just installed a NH-D15 into  Define Fractal C TG case which has 172mm cooler height clearance. I’m using the Vengeance LPX ram which I believe is 34mm.

I lifted the 2nd fan up to clean the ram and it is just sitting on in. The fan literally touches the TG panel but is fine and the panel goes on without any pressure needed.

If your case has 170mm clearance I don’t think you’d get the side panel on. Although saying that I have seen ppl saying that they’ve managed it.
