Questions on upgrading GPU

If you have an ATX tower case it should fit easily @ 267 mm in lenght. If you have a small case, try to find the maximum GPU lenght it supports

Mine... looks like a med tower?

Okay that's a big tower, that 1070 should fit with ease! So thats not of any concern.

And would any 500w PSU work? I would like one that does rattle my case to death + non-expensive

Yeah easily, 400W is recommended for a 1060 and 500W for a 1070 / 1070 Ti

Someone recommended a 1070 Ti over the 1070, which costs $450 instead of $410 and to be honest is it slightly a better value, but I wouldn't worry about it too much.

You said you had a 440W PSU already, so you could just get the 1060 and not even have to upgrade you PSU (to be honest I think your current 440W PSU could also run the 1070 fine, according to EVGA is only uses a max of 170W, leaving 270 watts for the rest of the system, which is sufficient). But go with what you want to spend.

gotcha. 1 more question(unless more pop up in my brain) is the "TI" just a better version of the regular version?

Yeah it has more cores, and therefore will perform slightly better:

Haha, trust me, with the 1070 you should be fine for years. I'm talking about 5+ years at 1080p 60 fps. Probably not at Ultra settings by the time, but even games then should be playable with good graphics.

The Nvidia GTX 570 (equivalent card compared to the 1070 from 2010) runs GTA 5 on high settings at 40-60 fps,

So futureproofing shoudn't be an issue :P

and the things such as "Strix" Windforce" "frozr V" ACX" are all colors?

No, those are different styles of coolers, each with their ups and downs but they're generally all good coolers.

My cpu is based at 2.70Ghz, intel says it can go to 3.30 GHz turbo'd(whats that, OC?) https://ark.intel.com/products/88185/Intel-Core-i5-6400-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_30-GHz

That means, if cooling allows it the CPU will run automatically at 3.3 GHZ when needed, such as when gaming and performing CPU intensive tasks. Otherwise it will run at 2.7 Ghz or slower to conserve power and put out less heat

Gotcha. I dont think ill OC unless i can take that risk(if there is) and My CPU is not an i5-6600    its actually a core i5-6400 at 2.70 GHz Does that change anything

Hmm, seeing benchmarks on youtube it shows that the i5 6400 does bottleneck the 1070... Maybe a more sophisticated choice is to get the 1060, which saves you quite some money and allows you to keep your current PSU. The problem with modern day games is that they become more CPU intensive as well. It would be a shame if your 1070 runs at 50-70% of its power, since your CPU can't keep up and always runs at 100%

Well, it's neck and neck actually some games the i5 6400 will bottleneck the 1070, in other games it won't. It should work ok, that's not the problem, but I'm afraid that in a few years, and even now on some very CPU intensive games (like PUBG) it will start to bottleneck the 1070...

1070 is still the better option bruv...

OP: for 1080p a 1060 is more than enough, but a 1070 will last longer.

For the love of god don’t just get any power supply. Make a new topic if you’re going to get a new one and check up on prices and stuff with the forum members. A bad power supply is not just a bad performer but dangerous
