I'm looking for new headphones, I've been looking at DT770 Pros and Audiotechnica M40x/M50x as I read that they are good value, I'm not sure what to get as I'm not that well informed about sound, I've read that the DT770 80Ohms have more bass than the 250ohm but the 250ohm have cleaner sound and are better when used with a PC. I've also read that the M50x sound quality isn't worth the extra money.

Anyone have any recommendations on what I should actually buy? I have a tight budget around £100-£150, I like good bass and listen to almost every genre of music. I'd be connecting these to my Surface Pro, Gaming PC and OnePlus 5T, I can get a DAC of a friend but I'm not sure if it's really needed.

Thanks

You are aware these are all closed back headphones and you know what advantages and disadvantages closed back headphones have?

Anyways, just to name off another difference between the DT770 250 vs. 80 Ohm: the cable. The 250 ohm has a coiled ('telephone') cable and the 80 ohm version has a much longer cable.

I know that they are closed. Would the 250ohm create static noise as its a coiled cable unlike the 80?

I have a DT990 250 Ohm (which is open back), which thus has a coiled cable and I don't have static. Not sure why it would get static because of the cable..

Beyerdynamic claims the coiled cable is there because there is more power going to the headphone (I'm paraphrasing, they likely didn't use the word power :P )

I sadly don't have experience with the sound of the DT770 (although I see a post online from someone who returned them because he didn't like the sound), but I can say my DT990 have excellent comfort (it has the same structure as the DT770). But I have also seen tons of people complain about the sound signature of the M50X's, mainly their lack of a sound stage (which some might expect from closed back headphones).

there is no comparison on m50 and dt770

770 in any form overrules those damn m50s or m50x

after listening myself its clear case of scoobydoo

who done it on the m50s

and for sound maybe some bassheads or fanboys like the secondary beats like sound

kudos to you

770s do everything better in my book actually I dont even know where my m50s are but I know where my dt770 are

for closed headphones they will be close

close enough to watch you yawn at the dinner table and ...............

out of all my closed headphones they are 2nd nvx 100xpt are first but they are fisher clones but non teh less

my 50s are guaranteed needing virtual surround for the competitive edge

but if someone else he hd6xx they already won2
