Using the baseline of the very gold Asrock X99 OC formula I have been trying to figure out a theme for a complete build for quite some time.  I believe I have found the solution to my problems!  The theme is tentatively named Fading Royalty with colours Gold/purple/black/grey.  The name comes from both the colours and the nature of of the hardware - once this PC would have been the king of gaming and now leaves its crown to its predecessors with dignity.

This thread is my planning/minor update location, I'll be making a proper build log as parts arrive and I start getting things done xD  Looking for leads on relevant cases, having a hard time deciding on one.

Sounds like a very optimistic (in a good way) approach to a build utilizing components with deplorable color scheme choices from the manufacturer, given the distinct lack of other solid gold colored components. I'd be interested to see your progress.

Also, while you're still using X99, I'd recommend you at least try one of the insane price per core Xeons that exist for 2011-3. They offer very good value for what they are, in fact I think I've already discussed them with you on another occasion.

I'll eventually grab a 1681/1686/1691 v3 if I can, a 10 - 14 core capable of 4.5ghz would be ideal.

For now though I'm bound by monetary restrictions and a 6800k is what I wound up going with

A color scheme worthy of a Titan V. Definitely like the theme.

Thanks, I'm more or less stuck with Primochill fittings (only gold on the market) and have no clue whether or not they are any good :/

Indeed, I would focus on your cosmetic upgrade first as that is the intent of your current project. Watercooling gear, fittings, and custom cables are a steep expense by themselves.

Actually, I'm more or less good to go on all of that (once you make your first loop upgrading/changing it gets way cheaper)

For example, I have my radiators, fans, pump, GPU block etc already meaning all I need is coolant and fittings.

Doing the sleeving myself as well

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!
