Going for a new build, Some questions that I have

I am going to be building a new pc very soon, I just need to decide on something that has been bugging me.

I am gonna be buying the i5 8400 for 220$ (roughly), The 8600K costs 340$ (for some odd reason...) which really isn't the problem, The real problem is the motherboard that I am thinking of buying,

Its the Asus H110M-K. Its not a feature heavy mobo but It seems nice. It has LGA1151 support, USB 3 and some other neat features. But it costs only 62$ idk but that seems suspicious. Is that a reliable mobo ? Thats the main question.

Should I stretch the budget to buy something like the Prime B250M or similar ?

Another question. I've read somewhere (tomshardware probably) that DDR3 doesn't work with Skylake (lga1151) because it exceeds 1.35V. Is that true ?

I haven't really ever built a computer apart from replacing ram, gpus and cpus (never really looked that much into parts)

Thanks in advance.

for the 8th gen (in intels wonderful planing) you need a 300 series board. So right now thats Z370 or at some point z390

Good luck, Have fun, Build PC, and have a last gen console for use once a year. I should answer most of the time between 9 to 3 PST

I would recommend the ASUS Prime Z370-P. You'll need a Z370 chipset motherboard for 8th gen core processors and ASUS is a reliable brand.

Also you would have to buy DDR4 RAM as that is the only one that is supported by that CPU.

Yes I planned to

R5 1600 and a b350 MOBO.  Until there are cheaper boards for the 8th gen intel line up this is the best bang for the buck.

Seems like it.

Ryzen is quite noticeably weaker in games and I am also gonna be playing on 1080p so I wanted to get an i5

I think I would get a MSI Z370 board for 100$, Seems like the best deal currently.

Before you buy have a look.  Gaming is closer than you think.

Honestly, while Coffee Lake is awesome (I have the i5 8600k), Ryzen may very well suit you! If you're gaming at 60fps (pretty much regardless of resolution), Ryzen will be totally fine. This generation, Intel really shines when you're trying to go for a high refresh rate monitor like 144hz or 165hz (or higher). In general, Ryzen is cheaper, AM4 support guaranteed through 2019, modern features, and runs significantly cooler than Intel's line-up.

At higher resolutions, you are more GPU bound, so the difference between something like an i5 8400 and an R5 1600 decreases.

Yes I plan to play most games on 60hz only but in the future I want to get a 144hz monitor, But then I'm pretty sure better deals would be available.

Probably gonna go for a 1500X or 1600, Maybe even the 1600X

If you REALLY intend on going 144hz (which I highly recommend), then I'd get whatever AMD chip suits your needs and wait for the Ryzen II or Ryzen+ (whatever the follow-up is called) chips to release (unless you plan on overclocking or wish to wait for non "Z" Intel 300 series boards to pair with the 8400) Hopefully clock speeds and IPC is increased so high refresh rate gaming isn't "only an Intel thing"!

As for the CPUs that you mentioned, the 1500x, 1600, and 1600x, many users and reviewers have found that the "X" edition of the chips are of lesser value in that they cost more for minimal performance boost. You can overclock the 1600 to the level of the 1600 and save yourself some money that could be spent on other hardware!

The R5 1600 is perhaps the best offering by AMD right now. I highly recommend it!

Cheers!
