It's probably best to do it before you install Windows 7, Yes

Hi,

I will be building my new PC soon and was wondering if I should update the BIOS (If newer version is available) before installing Windows? Thoughts?

Thanks, guy/girls!

I don't think it would matter too much either way.

Swapping motherboards without reinstalling OS can cause issues but updating the BIOS after the OS has been installed shouldn't make a difference at all. They are made to be updated and there is no expectation that if you update your BIOS you will have to reinstall the the OS. In saying that some motherboards need to be updated to take new hardware, X79 to take Ivy Bridge-E processors for example but this again shouldn't have any impact on the OS.

generally you only should update a bios when an issue occurs because it needs an update. dont fix what aint broke. "known" issues due to a bios are usually easy to look up so just search before you decide to update it.

Thank you, sir! Proud to say I have no enemies and can get along with everybody. Well, 'cept with the older neighbor who lets her hamster-sized dog drop pebbles in my yard. UGH!

it would be a shame if anything happened to that dog xD

I did it with the Asus easy to use bios update through the special usb port using a flash drive and the latest bios from there website, when it was complete the computer started for the first time itself and never had a problem.

If your getting Windows 8.1 not sure if you will like it if you have been used to the others like Windows 7 i say is best on a desktop and Windows 8.1 is fine on laptops or touch screens. just my personal preference

got to love Asus components

I am running Windows 8 Pro, now. Been running it for a few months now and starting to get used to it. I like it.

Anyway, thanks for your response.
