Which parts to upgrade for 1440p gaming experience?

Hello everyone,

A few years back i managed to build a decent pc for 1080p but now that there are more demanding games and the fact the i want to enter the 1440p realm I would like to know your opinion in what parts should I upgrade? Below are my specs:

Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme4 LGA 1150 Intel Z87
GPU: GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 970
CPU: Intel Core i5-4690K
RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws Z Series 8GB (2 x 4GB)
PSU: CORSAIR CX Series CX600 600W 80 PLUS BRONZE
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO

SSD: SAMSUNG 840 EVO MZ-7TE120BW 2.5" 120GB
HD: WD Blue 1TB Desktop Hard Disk Drive

Also, what 1440p gaming monitor should I get?

The GPU obviously although i'd prefer to get 1080p 144hz monitor because it will give u more noticeable improvement especially if u play an e-sport games.

This is subjective of course.

Some may prefer to have eye candy graphics and good looking color.

If u have the budget try to find used i7-4790k.

As for the monitor i dont know there are very wide varieties of monitor out there just take one that has 144hz 1440p resolution with G-sync if u have the budget it will help u eliminate screen tearing and gives u a smooth gameplay experience

This is my experience with an ultra wide display:

I have a 4790k paired with a GTX 1070, my display is an LG 34UM95p | 60hz | 3440x1440

While I can push games reasonably well @ 60hz, I'm not so sure the 1070 can push 144hz at this resolution.

I have a cue light I can use to show you when I’m joking, if you like.
