It won't futureproof my friend. This thing is so old. GTX 660 barely beat up the 750Ti now. 4GB of RAM is not enough.

The cpu is fine, it;s just the ram and GPU that is the problem.

i wouldnt pay more than $100 for that computer.

it will live, but its nothing more than a facebook/youtube machine, and it wont even do that very quickly.

Replace the GPU with a 1070 or 1070 Ti and get a total of 8GB of RAM.

Clam down lol I would instant buy this computer for 200$

It's still a i5 3rd gen and a gtx 660

I say if you are short on money and this is only what you can afford you should still be pleased. Add 4GB ram and you will have good results, but expect to lower settings all the time in every games you play

id like to know more details about that psu.
the if you change the cpu, you must change the ram and the motherboard (if you go for something brand new)

what will you do with it ? light games ?

the 660, thought old, is a decent gpu for 1080p mid-high wich is usually enough for most people.
id ask to run a few benchmarks on it first to test it (ram, cpu, gpu)
another stick of ram will be fairely cheap too.
its a decent deal. should last you a few years without much problems. (thought you might run out of hdd space...)

more things to consider :
is the cooler stock ?
if so, --> get a 212 evo (20$+-)
perhaps the thermal paste would need replacement. (5$+-)

I mean, I built a 2x 660ti + q6600 (yeah, core 2 quad, not quad core) 2 years ago, and its still running very well.
id go for it. 200$ is a really good deal, and if anything. you can make it into a Network Accessible Storage (NAS) down the road or something.

With that cpu tho don't you think op should opt for a 1050 ti or 1060 ?

I think you're overestimating the capabilities of that cpu
perhaps even the psu...

a mid range i5 from 5 years ago, 4GB of ram, a 250GB hdd(probably 5400rpm), and a 660 is not worth $200.

im not saying its terrible. and with some minor upgrades it could be decent, another 4GB of ram, and a cheap ssd could go a long way.

but if he has to pay out extra money to make it "decent" then he should definitely try to talk the dude down a bit, $150 is the probably max i'd pay

Up to him. I'd stop at either of those two. The biggest factor is knowing what PSU he has and how fast he can get the 8GB of RAM.

Low ball him for $175.  It needs more RAM and possibly an SSD to make a decent low-end gaming machine.

Just to be clear, you're in the US, right?

its not a bad deal at 200, but definitely try to talk him down a bit.
