New build, need help to get the costs down.

niksa83

Firstly i must apologize for my piss poor grammar. English it's not my native language.

It's time to give my old trusty AMD fx-6100 to the kids and build myself a new computer. I will be using the computer purely on gaming. No streaming or content creation etc.

I chose the hardware but the costs went too high for my liking. Last time i build a computer it was 15 years ago, so i'm no tech savvy. Some of the parts might not even be compatible so correct me if i have made mistakes. Keep in mind that i live in Finland and the prices might be different for you guys living in US.

I tried to do the currency conversion to make it easier for you guys.

Here is the list:

Samsung 960 EVO SSD 250 Gt M.2 140,90€ / 166$

Asus STRIX GeForce GTX 1070 529,90€ / 626$

Seagate 2TB BarraCuda 3.5" SATA III, 7200rpm, 64MB 74,90€ / 88$

Cooler Master 650W, V650, 80PLUS GOLD 129,90€ / 153$

Kingston HyperX FURY DDR4 2666 MHz CL16 16 Gt 168,90€ / 199$

Noctua NH-D14 75,90€ / 89$
Fractal Design Define R5 BlackOut Edition ATX 124,90€ / 147$
Microsoft Windows 10 Home, 32/64-bit 119,00€ / 140$

Asus ROG STRIX Z370-F GAMING 229,90€ / 271$
Intel Core i5-8600K 3,6 GHz LGA1151 286,90€ / 339$

Total: 1881,10€ / 2224$

If you guys have any recommendations i would highly appreciate it. The costs need to go down. I'm sure some of these parts could be swapped for cheaper versions without it affecting gaming experience much at all.

You could consider getting the i5-8400. It is a cheaper 6 core CPU but loses the ability to overclock. Or you could change to AMD's new offering (Ryzen) with the 1600 being similarly priced (or lower) which has 6 cores and 6 extra threads.

You could buy a Windows key off of eBay for a few dollars/euros instead of paying over $100.

I don't believe there is much difference between the R5 standard and the R5 black out so maybe consider the base version.

Hope this helps :)

That would be a bad choice. It has shown Coffe Lake likes high ram speed along with Ryzen.

You create a bootable USB with the media creation tool and then install windows from there.

eah that would work just make sure you plugged it into the back of the mobo in a USB 2.0 slot

you dont really need a 650w psu .the 1070 minimum is 500w so you could go for a 550 or a 600 psu

i spent $3500(23,000dkr.) on building my pc and i only play csgo on low settings..

:Specs:

SSD: Choose a cheaper one. Crucial MX300 275GB, Samsung 850 Evo 250GB, Toshiba TR200 240GB. This should save you around 50€.

Graphics Card: You can also choose a cheaper model here and save about 50€, the one you chose seems like the price of a 1070Ti.

Power Supply: I'm not sure about pricing there but something like a Seasonic M12II Evo 620W should also save you about 50€ and is also modular.

RAM: Since RAM is pretty expensive and I don't know about prices in your country I can't say. But if there is a 2x8GB 3000MHz solution for less than ~220€ I would go for that.

CPU Cooler: You can dismiss this if you go for an i5-8400, i7-8700 or Ryzen 1600.

Case: Seems to be personal choice, a solid case aswell.

OS: You don't need to buy Windows, at least at that price. Download it from the official website and either activate it with a key (which you can buy for much lower as some people have said) or don't activate it at all.

Motherboard: Here you can buy the cheapest or near cheapest Z370 if you step away from the 8600k or a B350 if you go for a Ryzen 1600.

CPU: Already discussed.

All these changes should lower your costs significantly.

Don't recommend a significantly worse PSU, which also lacks protections...

Get the 1070Ti instead of a 1070.

Cheaper still gold power supply.

m.2 nvme is not really needed for gaming.

The mobo is your choice I just picked the cheapest one.

Here you could get win 10 for free if you are a student so I don't know if your kids study yet.

I just randomly picked the cheapest :)

But yeah most of the time it's best not to go for the cheapest solution but look at what you need.

I would spend the extra and build it yourself. A weaker PSU is terrible as it could have bad capacitors etc

I was thinking since the whole computer has 3 year warranty i could simply swap out the PSU and cooling once the warranty runs out. Would that make sense.

Well every part you buy will have warranty with the manufacturer. So it isn't  worth it really.
