CPU Choice help

Hey, I am looking to upgrade my PC at the end of the year, I already have 3200mhz cl14 DDR4 RAM, but I really don't know what CPU to get. I am thinking the i5-8600k as I am mainly going to be gaming and it sounds like it beats most of ryzen for gaming, but if I do plan to do a very light amount of streaming would ryzen be worth it? I'd prefer intel but im not sure

8600k ($299) won only by 5% margin, so i say ryzen 1600x ($230).

Ryzen 1600 also a good choice at $190.

 

Motherboard for ryzen is cheaper than intel 300 series board which sells for $110 the cheapest.

You could get a decent b350 mobo for $70.

You'll save $100 in total.

I am not an AMD user, but are there any caveats related to the ryzen?

 

This is entirely not related to the OP or Supa response, but I am curious if more cores/threads do not always mean better performance...Check this video editing comparison -Not Streaming Related Video-

There are caveats from ryzen as it still relatively lower clock speed compared to intel means lower Instructions Per Clock (IPC).

And as you can see in the video, tasks that are optimized for more threads seems to favor ryzen.

Right now intel is the IPC king no doubt. But comes in higher price too. You pay 50% more for the same class.

Choose Ryzen if you valued price to performance ratio.

But anyway if you have high end GPU those task will perform way faster if you use the mercury engine as oppose to cpu.

I don't own AMD CPU, but the fact that they offer good CPUs @ reasonable prices is really great for many people which is a big plus for all of us...

Yes, im sure if theres no ryzen there won't be intel i9 too .

you could go with the r5 1600  and use the stock cooler to save money, or get the cheapest z370 motherboard and go with the i7 8700 (330usd, almost the same as the 8600k in games, but smokes it with the extra threads, i.e. streaming, kills the ryzens too) , don't go with the 8600k for the same price. You need a good cooler to oc the 8600k, but you have a free stock cooler for the 1600, 1700, and can use a cheap mobo and cooler for the 8700.

 

Ryzen depends on the exact ram that you got. I give intel the edge on this one. 

 

If the ram you got happens to be flare x cl14, then ryzen isnt a bad choice.

 

So if you are really tight on budget, go with the r5 1600, if not i7 8700/8700k depending on ur budget.
