Hey Guys!

So my galaxy s8 took a very very nasty hit thanks to a mate of mine recently, completely destroying the glass back and damaging the front screen badly, the phone is still in working condition how ever. As an old iPhone user and certified apple technician I am wondering if there is anything at all like iCloud backup but for the galaxy? Because I know with my iPhone, I can just back it up and restore it onto a new phone like nothing had changed. I know samsung smart swtich does something similar, but it requires both devices to be present, I plan on claiming insurance on my phone, and I very much doubt they will give me both my old still working phone and a brand new one. So is there anyway to make a clone/backup of the device and restore it onto the new device?

Thanks!

There are some backup options but I can't remember what's on by default and what isn't. I know contacts, apps, and whatnot are synced either to google, samsung, or both, depending on your settings.

As for the transfer, at least here in the states, they send you the new phone and then you send them the old one, depending on the circumstances. So possibly ask how the process works to the company, they might do something similar which would allow you to transfer between the two devices.

It does, when you get a new device it will offer to reinstall all the apps you used to have and should also restore settings

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

What else does it backup? Does it do pics, movies, and music?

I know you can do pictures too.  I don't know much about it though because I just manage my files manually

hmmm

Well if that is true it is good to know that Android has something like iCloud backups in place.

I looked into it a bit more and it claims to do videos too.

As for music, anyone can upload their entire collection to Google Play Music for free and stream it anytime, anywhere, and even redownload their same files again, so that's covered too, and in a way that doesn't take up any cloud storage room, so that's nice.

Oh, and the photos thing has two modes - "original file", which gets stored in your cloud space, and "high quality", which is scaled down a bit, but you get unlimited space for those.
