CableMods Gone Horribly Wrong

Revan654
Go to solution Solved by CableMod,

@Revan654 can you shoot me a message on who it is that purchased these cables? I would like to get in contact with them and resolve the matter of course. We sell a lot of cables and our RMA rate is very low, but we are still very proactive about fixing any issues that arise. It is unfortunate that we do have mistakes, but again we do take care of them. I do see this is the PSU end so the crossing cables is for the manufacturing pinouts of course, but do you have any feedback you would give for improvements? We of course always listen to feedback and try to improve.

First these are not mine, I create my own cables. These are someone else's cable who recently order the new "Pro" cables.

Purpose of this thread is to bring it to the attention of @CableMod and other users. You may want to hold off on ordering the new cables until company fixes issues.

- Y cable is horribly done and heatshrink is falling off the sleeving.

- The pins are falling out of the connector, Mini Fit Jr. terminals have a locking system. How did this even happen, Does CableMod even check there completed work before send it out?

- Each cable has a different OD.

- Order place was for smaller cables and person got over 300mm+.

It is possible this is just 1 out of 100 or even 1000 where something got messed up throughout the process in the warehouse just like any other item you order online. Have you contacted cablemods and asked for the correct cables?

It might be an oversight from time to time. However all his cables he ordered were like this(Nearly 400 dollars worth). They are all falling apart.

Like I said these are not mine.

It's not his, he snapped this up from someone else and is reporting on it.

Hopefully as you said, a one in a thousand, hope they can get that replaced ASAP

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Yeah, all I'm saying is rather than stating to "avoid cablemods", why not try to contact cable mods first and resolve the issue. If it continues to be an issue then yeah.. there might be a bigger problem at hand.

I have a bunch of there old Modflex cables and all sleeving are coming out of those. It's just the way CableMod attaches there sleeving. They crimp it direct to the terminal which can be torn off the terminal very easily. Sleeving should be melted to the terminal.

Well for one, you should never pull on the sleeving or cable itself anyways. The terminals have clips for a reason where you push and pull, never requiring you to pull on the cable.

Never did, They all came out all on there own or when the cable was arched. Those so called "clips" I assume you mean the lock system.

The Sheath is not suppose to be used as a holder for sleeving. The Conductor is designed for wire strands and Sheath is designed to hold the wire and nothing else.

Thanks, I don't use a flame for my melting process(Many use lighters, They take a bit longer and melt more of the sleeve). I also use hotter temps, which reduces the time needed to melt each end.

Have 2 sets of cablemod cables, one is a full set for my seasonic psu and a set of their pro extensions. Have 0 issues with them, pristine quality and they offer awesome customer service. If you have any issues with any cables purchased with them, they will take care of you until you're happy.

Did "someone else"  tried to contact them and present them the issue he's experiencing?

CableMod have the best support I have ever dealt with, and I had my fair share of RMA-ing back when I used to work as a system builder. If your friend tried to contact them I am sure he would be taken care of and you wouldn't be making this post :)

I have made few cable purchases from CableMod, their full cable set, set of pro cables and set of pro extensions with bunch of other items and quality is always top notch. My pro cable set also have Y cable which looks as good as possible so I guess that this was just a slip that can happen to any company out there.

However, I am sure you didn't made this post because you are altruist that is afraid somebody else might get bad cables, you made it because you are also selling sleeved cables and you are trying to snatch few customers by bashing a brand with great reputation, that will do everything to make their customers happy.

Just my two cents ;)

I gave him the E-mail address you gave me awhile back. Not sure what timezone he is in. He should contact you shortly.

Actually No, I don't sell cables. I have offered the extra cable I had to someone, That's as far as that went. I don't run a cable sleeving company or business.

I had two RMA's from Cablemods, The one was fine. The other they failed to replace the cables and didn't reply after that. This was way back when CableMod first Launched.

Quality, Just no. They use HWT connectors there below low budget connectors. Terminals I'm not sure on the brand they use since there not watermarked. The only advantage HWT has is there very cheap to buy.

@Revan654 thank you for that - Matt@CableMod.com is my direct email or he can email Support@CableMod.com too, both will allow us to resolve any issue of course.

That is strange as I am confident that you had a post where you were advertising cable sleeving. Strangely, I am unable to find that post now so I guess it was removed for some reason...

I usually just lurk from the shadows, but this time I had to join the conversation, as I have seen you comment multiple times on how quality of CableMod cables is bad, and how your cables are much better (this also sounded like advertising). This is not what I had experienced with CableMod products. I understand that there can and will be issues with any product occasionally, but to me, it is more important that manufacturer stands behind their products like CableMod and EVGA do, which cannot be said for other, much bigger companies like Apple, which will act dumb and claim that product went bad because of user error or that user don't know how to use the product...

Even if it's true that I made a mistake thinking that you actually advertised sleeving services (which I am fairly sure you did :)), until your friend unsuccessfully tries to sort things out with CableMod and fails (which I am 100% sure will not happen) this post is just a clickbait, meant to scare the people away from buying a good product.

I am not saying that a good sleever is not able to make better cables, that simply wouldn't be true, specially if you look at beautiful magic show performed by Hans P0pe in each of his builds, However, did you ever heard Hans bashing on other peoples work to promote his own? I haven't, and that how it's done... You let your work speak for itself without using CableMod name to get attention to your work ;)

Over and out!
