There's multiple chipsets you can use, but to get the most out of the K SKU i7 8700, you'll want a Z370 chipset motherboard.

EDIT: Actually, it's more accurate to say that there will be multiple chipsets you can use, but right now Z370 is your only choice AFAIK. H and B series for the 8th gen Intel CPUs should be coming fairly soon.

i was hoping the asus armor series would be out by now and it didn't happen, went with asrock x4 instead.

No it is not compatible. Here is a list of motherboards worth buying for that chipset, courtesy of AlphaC.

It is not. Only Z370 (currently, there will be B and H series) is the only chipset that is compatible with 8th gen Intel chips. Even though they're still on the same socket, Z170 and Z270 chipset boards will not work with 8th gen CPUs.

might be a long read but here's the z370 mb feature set

https://wccftech.com/intel-z370-motherboard-roundup-asus-msi-asrock-aorus-gigabyte/

if you don't oc, go with any brand/price that u like, i went with a tuf-pro for my media pc (LOL)

if you do oc, i just ordered the Xtreme4 because it was on sale, but if it wasn't on sale i'd went with the taichi. alot of useless stuff like a PS/2 and VGA port on the X4, some of the top end asus boards have 6 usb 3s instead of 4 in the back.

TLDR: u can't go wrong with the AsRock Taichi
