Use some decent antivirus/antimalware, boot in safe mode. Run a scan & removed it.

Get an actual virus removal tool and remove it. Windows defender is crap.

Windows Defender does two things, tell you you got fucked and corrupt files. Time for better software.

I only use windows defender and it works great for me. Even after installing.... debatably moral stuff. All you really need is common sense.

Common sense does work. You'd be surprised to know some legit websites that have been targeted can might run malicious code with you knowing. If click something, you start downloading this without you knowing.
