First build in years--thoughts on this build?

5point0
  1. Budget: My goal is $1,000-1,200 (not including peripherals). I'm located in Seattle.
  2. Aim: 75% for gaming (mainly FPS), 25% would be for designing (2D and 3D)
  3. Monitors: I prefer a single, larger monitor and could use help on recommendations here as well. I've researched about 144Hz, gsync monitors but get lost when comparing specs//price:value. Bonus points for plugging my MBP with USB-C adapters into it.
  4. Peripherals: I wouldn't mind giving the fancy pants RGB stuff a try. Don't need advice on kb/mouse.
  5. Upgrading: I use a MBP for designing at work but would love to get back into pc gaming. I almost pulled the trigger on a prebuilt BF desktop but prefer building one after research.

Here's an older build I appreciated for how sleek it came together and for the price. Is there much I should update on that build for longevity?

Any advice appreciated.  Cheers.

Looks good!

I'd probably swap out the PSU for one that's modular, the GTX 1070 for one that isn't the founder's edition (better cooling). Your CPU is a good choice too. People might say "get a 7600k/8600k" but unless it's the same-ish price, don't bother. The 6600k is so close in performance to a 7600k that it's almost irrelevant

I would pay more for a 8400/8600k because you can set the 8400 to run at 6 core turbo always. 8400 is way better than the 6600k.

Yeah.. stop  feeding him crap..
The 7600k and 6600k are similar, but the 7600k is also last gen.. the 8600k and 8500 are just flat out better options than both and it's not "close", Ryzen 5 performs very closely and is quite a bit cheaper on a better platform..

Don't get the 6600k unless you can get it like 75$ cheaper than an series or ryzen 5

Meh, I wouldn't say it's crap. He's not missing out by getting a 6600k. Sure he wouldn't be able to overclock it as high, but with the variation in the silicon lottery, a 6600k is fine. Also (could be completely different where you are) 8th gen processors are a little rare at the moment.

Sure Ryzen 5 is good, but the guy was looking at Intel so I just stuck on that boat.

At the higher end of the budget. Not much RGB, but decent performance.

Yeah, and if he wants intel, he should get an 8th gen i3 or 8th gen i5. Why are you trying to make him by old hardware?

No, I'm not trying to make him buy anything xD 8th gen supply is still spotty, I was just presenting the hardware that even though the 6600k is "old" it's performance is almost identical to the "new" (minus the 2 cores in the 8th gen).
