i5 8600k or i7 8700k or even i7 8700

Go to solution Solved by genexis_x,

In gaming, there's not much difference between 8400, 8600k, 8700 and 8700k
Consider Ryzen 1600 and 1700 too

One more thing, may I know why you opt for AIO for both CPU and GPU? 120 AIO performs mediocre and AIO GPU doesn't improve performance much (and very expensive)

So I'm building a pc (itx cause I want it to fit in a plane carry on bag) and I waited for black friday deals, but now the i5 8600k is out of stock until the 30th and I need everything in the p.o box before the 2nd of December. I had decided on that cpu because it seemed like the best choice, specially at that price (maybe Im wrong). Now Im wondering if I should a) buy the OEM version from OutletPc b) Buy an i7 8700k with the money I have saved from deals or c) buying the i7 8700 and not overclocking (altho I already bought a liquid cooler, but the rig is small so if overclocking generates more heat it might not be the worst not to everclock.

What do you think? Or should I consider switching to an amd processor? i haven't bought the motherboard yet, just the case, cpu cooler, gpu, and monitor. This is the build https://pcpartpicker.com/list/CTZz2R .

Thank you in advanced.

It depends on your needs and your budget.  In general, I think the differences between mid and high end CPU's are marginal unless you're editing 4K videos everyday or gaming at 120+ frames is a priority

For MMORPG games or 100fps+ go with Intel.

Otherwise Ryzen will be fine.

Because the airflow isnt optimal in the case im building on due to the size, and after checking with people who built on the same case in partpicker, I was adviced to use AIO, and 120mm is the most I can fit in the case. I do think AIO gpus are expensive and not that much better (but I did watch a lot fo reviews on the msi I bought and overall it does do a good job) but I got that AIO  GPU at $720 + destiny 2 in newegg. It is the case mainly.

Ive watched a lot of benchmark videos and in gaming the fps difference is considerable (at least for me 10-15 fps) between even an 1 58600k and a amd 1700x.

10-15 frames depends on how much u have already.  going from 95 to 110 i highly doubt is impactful

Forgot to mention I went for a different monitor, 3440x1440p @100hz for the same price. I also read or saw somewhere that the higher res, the less important becomes the cpu, is that true? Anyway, since the i5 8600k is out of stock, should I buy the OEM version or would paying more than $100 for an i7 8700k would be worth the price difference. Is OutletPC a good distributor? and are OEM cpus the same? Thanks.

Thats a good point, altho lets say from 90 to a 100 that would be worth it for me to get the full 100hz of the monitor.

Sorry OEM CPU?

I only know of tray or box.

Those 2 only differ in packaging and in some cases the box contains a stock cooler.
