EDIT: So, does anyone have a recommendation for a i5-8600k and the rest if my list?

Hiya guys. With help from a friend, I have this list for a gaming pc currently at hand:

New list: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/list/8jYptJ

I was wondering whether you had any suggestions for it, among it the power supply. Would a 650 Gold be okay, or a EVGA 600-650 Bronze be enough?

Also, if you live in Canada, what day is the best this week for sales: Thursday afternoon, friday midnight or morning, or monday midnight or morning?

Get the Coffee Lake chips if you can afford it/get your hands on it. In many applications, the i5 8600k beats the i7 7700k. May as well get the latest and greatest if you can!

I assume that the SSD is for your OS and games correct? If it is just for the OS then you can save some money by getting a smaller SSD. Around 120GB would be fine.

Yeah, just saw that gold one seemed good. Any recommendations for a SSD? The choice I had before was only 20 cheaper, so it didn't seem like that much of savings.

Efficiency doesn't say anything about how good a PSU actually is. And EVGA has a whole lot of really bad PSUs.

550W is plenty for the build, even overclocked, and the Focus Plus Gold is available for about the same.

I hope the build was made before October 5th, because after that, it would make no sense.

For gaming, the 8400 or 8600K will match or beat the 7700K, so get one of those.

Don't get an H-series motherboard for an unlocked chip. For Coffee, you'll need a Z370 motherboard.

The MX300 has a bit more capacity than the SU800, costs a bit less, and is as good otherwise

For a gaming build, you should focus more on the GPU than on the CPU. A 1070 Ti should be doable.

But do check what comes on sale on Black Friday. If there's a better component for the same price, or a matching component at a cheaper price, you should change it.

:)

If it is just for the OS then you would be fine with this one:

I know some people like to put their games on a SSD so it boots quicker. This way you can put the $20 on other things.

Hmm, anyway you'd recommend saving somewhat on the motherboard, whether with the case or size?

Dropped the board down a bit but there aren't much cheaper boards that also have SLI support which would allow an upgrade in the future. If you don't care about SLI then the second option is an even cheaper board.

I don't have much know knowledge about this stuff. How much performance would SLI give me if I decide to upgrade in the future? And exactly which boards of those would support overclocking?

It could give you a decent bump in performance, depending on the game.

All Z370 boards support overclocking so it's just if SLI support is there or not.

If SLI is supported in a game, you usually get 30-80% better performance by adding a second card. But there is less and less support for it in newer games, meaning you'll often see 0% improvement. Also keep in mind that SLI usually increases stuttering, and has a bunch of other annoyances

I've been updating the list, and I'm currently reconsidering the processor, between the 7600K, 7700K and 8600K. For the build I currently have, which do you think would be a good choice, considering I'm mostly going for 1080p gaming.

And if one of the former is better, any recommendations for the motherboard?

https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/rKx9TW/asus-strix-h270f-gaming-atx-lga1151-motherboard-strix-h270f-gaming

This was the one I was seeing, but I'm open for any suggestions.

I had been also looking for a fully modular PSU. If my build uses around 390, how much higher should the psu have, would 550 be enough, and whether bronze or gold.
