So I have a 128gb ssd and a 1tb hard drive in my system right now. I'm building my younger brother a PC and i thought it would be an ideal time to upgrade my storage. I'm going to put my ssd and hard drive in his system, and purchase a samsung 850 evo 256gb along with a sandisk ultra 2 480gb. How would you guys suggest I tackle moving my data? I was think of installing the new ssds and cloning the hard drive data to the 480gb ssd and the boot drive data to the evo, but I have read that you should always do a clean install of windows. Just not sure what to do exactly.

(Side note, swapping my motherboard as well if that means anything.)

Thanks!

I'm a fan of cloning. I do it day in, day out. You still have many people insisting on a fresh install although I tend to just run a chkdsk repair and sfc scan afterwards. Never encountered an issue and think reinstalling the entire OS is a waste of time.

Your plan sounds solid to me. I'd probably do the same.

Probably gaming or helping technophobes with tech...

What cloning software do you use by chance?

I prefer a clean install because it's less headache plus after months or years of use the drive will collect garbage files that you don't use and after a clean install you'll find you'll actually get some storage space back. I changed out my boot drive after a couple years of use and did a clean install to the new one. After re-installing all my apps I gained back about 100GB of space.
