Need help deciding!

Go to solution Solved by Snedz1989,

Decided to go for the gtx 1060 3gb. Maybe 6gb depending on black friday pricing. In the middle of  renovating my house and xmas coming up for the kid,  so while budget isn't totally tight every little helps.

Like to think im right when i say the 1060 will do for a few months till i get cash together for a more extreme build.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

Finally building a new for the first time since 2010.......

Cpu: r5 1600

Motherboard: Asus Prime B350-PLUS AMD DDR4 S-ATA 600 ATX

Psu: evga 650w gq gold

Ram: 16gb(2×8gb) corsair vengeance

Gpu:????????

Cannot decide which gpu to get. Stuck between:

Gtx 1060 3gb

Gtx 1060 6gb

Gtx 970

Rx 570

Rx 580

Gtx 1070

I only game at 1080p, only need 60 fps. Prefer a little more to help with fps drops and such. Would also like max settings when practical.

Would a 1070 be overkill for 1080p??

Same question for rx 580.

And the 970 would be used, good/bad idra buying used?

Personally if you're not going for 144hz a 1070 would be more than enough. And as you say, it has some breathing room for badly optimized games (cough cough PUBG)

GTX 1070 is just right for 1080p for me. I always push anti aliasing to the max, so it takes a lot of gpu

Depends how much you want to max out the settings, realistic speaking even the GTX 1050 Ti can run 4k fine enough in a lot of games if you throw settings all the way down, it is a matter of how much tweaking with settings you're willing to do, if you want to run games max out at 1080p even the 1070 isn't enough in some titles truth be told.

I wouldn't say it's an issue. I bought a used GTX 750 after like 2 years of use and it lasted me another year-ish.

the 1060 3gb is basically a 970 give or take, so if you can find a new 1060, the 970 can be off the table, I personally use a 970 for 1080p, high with some aa.

1070 would be a safer bet since this is a new build.

Personally I think the 1060 3gb is the best choice listed

A 1050ti could easily handle most AAA games at 1080p med/high settings, 60fps. It can even run @4K, if you lower the settings a little bit. The RX 5000 series cards are inflated in price at the moment due to cryptocurrency, or you can get one at a good price with the black friday sale coming up soon. The 1060 3/6GB models are good 1080p cards, (they even do well at 1440p), there is only a 10% performance difference between the two cards, Nvidia basically disabled 10% of the CUDA cores on the 3GB model and downclocked the clockspeeds a little, depending upon the games you play, having the extra VRAM is a nice to have. A 1070 is way overkill if your only gaming at 1080p, the 1070 is made for handling higher resolutions such as 1440p->4K, so a 1060 should be enough for your use case.

If you found a decent deal on a gtx 980ti (they typically go for around $300 give or take, prices do alter). When overclocked, they perform better then a gtx 1070 but at stock speeds, the 1070 is better.

Most people can get to 3.8/9 GHz. I got mine to 3.9 at 1.35v with the stock cooler.
