The Wacom digitizer is great. But it’s not big enough to use as a makeshift Wacom tablet.

With what little I can do with even the Apple Store demo units, as well as my use of the Surface Pro 4 and playing with a Studio for 5 minutes ar a Bast Buy, I find both hands down better than Wacom's offerings at the time. Don't know about the new MobileStudio Pro, but I don't have high hopes.

I wouldn’t be opposed to turning my iPad Pro into a stand-alone drawing tablet

That's basically the only use I have for one. And mostly for a sketchpad, I'd leave the more final stuffs to my SP4.
