Are the Rosewill PSU's reliable?  I need a 500w for a budget build (meaning no more than $50 for the power supply) and the Rosewill unit I'm looking at is a few dollars cheaper than the EVGA.  Every penny saved helps.  Is it worth the money or should I spend a few bucks more and get the EVGA?

At that price point currently corsair's cx/CXM grey sticker PSUs are almost always the best choice.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Depends on which units you're looking at. Both companies make good and bad PSUs. What hardware will you be powering?

Hardware is nothing impressive.  Core i5-4440, 16gb of Crucial Balistix Sport DDR 3, 240gb Crucial SSD, 1050ti GPU.  The motherboard is actually an Acer board pulled from an old Aspire Desktop.  I know 500w is probably overkill but, I want room to upgrade.

It depends on the series. Some cheaper ones are made by less reputable OEM manufacturers, other series are made by better OEMs and they're higher quality (and often worth buying especially when on sale).

See http://www.realhardtechx.com/index_archivos/Page2917.htm

The ones made by Sirtec and Enhance Electronics and Super Flower and SOME Andyson should have a very good price vs performance/quality, and they should be safe buys.

Even some ATNG models with gold or platinum efficiency should be fine.

I'd only stay away for the very cheap Solytech and ATNG and the ones without 80 plus certification.

Make sure your Aspire uses non-proprietary connections first.

Then get a CXM. Rosewill has a few good units but they're a little more expensive. The Quark comes to mind.

My account is almost entirely dormant. Hope you all are having a grand time. Many years of fun were had here.
