Budget Headphone Recommendations?

GollyGee

Hello,

I'm looking for budget headphones for my computer (an upgraded OEM system) for both gaming and music. I'm not looking for a headset, but rather headphones and a separate mic.

Two questions:

1) Recommendations for headphones under $40?

2) Will the headphones sound really bad without a soundcard, DAC, or something?

1. im no expert by any means but id say either AKG K72 or Sony MDR-V55 just because they are brands i trust and do look to be quite nice. i have my old MDR-XB700 and those puppies are monsters still but sadly not sold anymore

2. people are gonna correct me but i wouldnt worry about it at this price point. i mean it can be a problem in some unfortunate system with crackling or hdd noise sipping through but if you have no foreign noises then as far as quality goes as i said at this price i wouldnt worry about it altough a headphone amp can help if they should be too quiet

"You know it'll clock down as soon as it hits 40°C, right?" - "Yeah ... but it doesnt hit 40°C ... ever  😄"

Ive used superlux headphone in the past with built-in audio with no issues, maybe something like these superlux hd668b would be good... i has some earlier ones and sounded okay, but  i definitely preferred having a dac/ amp on them, but that true for most headphones improving with dac/amp
