So, back in late March 2016, I went about spending my hard-earned (160 hours in two weeks hard) $1,100 buckaroos on a new PC to use for gaming and streaming. It wasn't much to work with, but I tried my darn-dest and came out... well, kinda on the low end of the spectrum, with an FX 6300 and a GTX 960. Now, a year and three quarters later, there's whole new architecture out, and I'm worried soon I'll have to upgrade. Problem is, to get to where I wanna be is gonna be about another $900, with a Ryzen 5 and a Vega 56. Ryzen 3 seems like a nice, cheap upgrade, but I'm confused about something:

With my dinky little setup, I am able to stream and game simultaneously without much trouble, or at least I have been able to so far. But, from what I've heard, the Ryzen 3 isn't powerful enough to do that, even though it's around the same price point mine was when new? And even though the Ryzen 3 is more capable than the FX 8320/50/70, the last-gen processor that was an upgrade from the one I have now? At least, I think that's what I read people saying... Anyway, basically, what's goin' on here? Or am I just missing something?

OBS to Twitch

you can't possibly be streaming H264 encoded so changing the CPU won't change jack for your stream or game performance while streaming

If you wanna stream, I'm not 100% sure but I think the extra threads and also maybe cores of a Ryzen 5 would do wonders for streaming.

I personally have a 1600 and when I feel like streaming, I barely notice a difference

$1,100 for an FX 6 core and 960 doesn't sound right exactly....

But you can use your GPU for streaming, you just can't be fancy like OBS lets you get with CPU streaming. You'd want an R7 1700 for streaming in any case.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

That was the price for the whole thing. Tower with all the bits, peripherals, etc.

That seems kind of high though even for 2016, but whatever.

You should just use Shadowplay to stream instead of OBS with that system.
