yeah ok

By the way, this build is pretty useless. Can't find any 7970, 280x, 7990, 290, 290x.

You might want to go the 3 X R9 290 route since who knows when the 280x will be available.

I'm in Canada so all that's available is this : http://ncix.ca/products/?sku=67172&vpn=FX-797A-TDFC&manufacture=XFX

But I just found a guy selling his Sapphire R9 280X Dual X that he bought 3 weeks ago with receipt and all for ........ 280$!!!!

I'll keep preying on unsuspecting customers in local ads.

On a side note, can I run different 280xs/7970s together ?

That link was to the Canadian site as well and had 5 available when I typed that, but looks like its sold out now. In one rig I have a 7950, 6970 and a 7850, the cards run independently of each other. So yes, you can have a 7960 and a 280x

Since Video card RAM gets emulated to system RAM when Scrypt mining you need 12GB of RAM. since you have 4, 3GB cards.

I need 12 Gb of onboard RAM? Are you sure? Most people recommend me only 1 2Gb stick for my setup.

yes. RAM will get emulated to the system ram during mining. so how ever much GPU RAM you have, you need at least that much system RAM.

and i guess I need a little more for OS and other processes. you recommend 2x 8Gb?

thats perfectly fine. I do not think mix-matching would affect it that much so if you have to go that route, go for it!

Proof? Of ANY sort since I see people run 4x 7850 with 4gb?

You probably do not need that much RAM. 4Gb will be good enough. Also if your previous build is still accurate that 1TB HDD is a little much, 500GB is plenty for OS+mining+Wallet stuff.

Well that confuses me even more. Some say I need min 12 Gb not including what other processes consume. Some say 2Gb is enough. Dafuq guize

I will probably go with a 64 Gb SSD, will that be enough ?

I have not heard people saying you need tons of RAM before but I've heard plenty including @agloat in this very thread say 4 is enough. But you definitely do not need an SSD. Just grab a cheapo 500GB HDD.

I'll give you the rundown of one of my rigs. I have a Sempron 140 single core CPU, 4GB of RAM, Windows 7 64-bit, a dirt cheap 40GB SSD, 3 X 7950s. This works flawlessly.

my only proof is with my 6950's... I have 4GB of RAM with 2 6950's and have like no memory left....task manager even says I have like 100MB free physical memory....

Well most of LTC mining rigs only have 4GBs of ram. In task manager, whats using it all?

From my understanding of other guides and reviews - you need 4GB Ram for Windows and it's operations, I think 2GB is just to low. You can supposedly get away with less if you're using Linux instead of Windows (not to mention you can use a USB boot drive if you prefer instead of an SSD).

64GB SSD should be enough, Windows will eat most of it and you don't need much more if it's a dedicated rig.

I use Reaper. Reaper is using it all. cgminer doesnt launch for me... maybe its because Im using vista in my mining rig... i dont know. but reaper uses all me memory.

I think Reaper may be the reason... CGminer is sometimes a pain, but never eats much memory. (How do you make an IT guy cry? "Vista")
