My first mini ITX build

Hi guys,

 

This is my first post by the way on linus tech tips forum. So I'm done with my first mini ITX build, here is the list of the components:

Motherboard   : MSI B250I GAMING PRO AC

CPU                : Intel Pentium G4560 3.5GHz

GPU                : Galax GTX 1050 OC edition 2Gb GDDR5

RAM               : 2X4 Gb Patriot Viper (red) 2400Mhz

HDD               : WD Blue 7200RPM 500Gb 

PSU.              : Gamemax RGB550 watt 80+ gold certified fully modular

CASE             : Cooler Master Elite 110

My goal to this build is just for casual games, some video editing in the future and HTPC in 1080p res. I’m planning to upgrade but not at the moment because the price is going up no good at all.

So, for the upgrade in the future not at this moment……

 

1.      CPU: should I go for core i5 7500, 7600, 7600K?

2.      GPU: should I go for GTX 1060? how many GB do I need?

3.      RAM: should I go for 2x8 GB?

4.      Storage: should I go for M.2 NVME? 

 

 

Please any advice will be well noted!!

As for your questions:

1. Wait for the 6700/7700 to drop in price and pick up one of those. I wouldn't buy new, buy used. You still get the remainder of the warranty.
2. The 1060 is a much better card, the 6GB one is more powerful so it gets my vote.
3. If you need. If you can get away with 8GB, it's fine.
4. NVME isn't really worth it. Stick to SATA, and upgrade when Optane memory becomes more affordable.

For that build I would upgrade in this order (long-term):

 

1) m.2 SSD around 250GB for OS (Not NVME m.2 its way to expensive)

2) GPU to like GTX 1060 6GB

3) CPU to i5-6600 or i5-7600

4) RAM to 2x8GB kit

So instead going for i5 I should go to i7 right? Don't you think is to overkill with the gtx 1060? 

As for the optane how many chances will intel fix their base like software ?

I would. You'll see better framerates from an i7, and since you'll be looking used (or new, but from a person not a store) then you shouldn't be paying anywhere near retail. I'd put a 7700's worth at about $200. If not less.

Yeah, even 128GB would be good for just your operating system. Your computer will run a lot faster. A sata SSD either m.2 or 2.5" will be the same. Not sure where you live but this is the cheapest 128GB variant in the US.

Well that's the problem used one seems to pretty unsure about it condition, any suggestions for brand new processor?

Good advice, what about intel optane to boost my drive? Or just go with the m.2 ssd.

I live in Indonesia where everything about PC is boost up price right now, can you imagine m.2 ssd (sata) for 120gb around 80$

I would just get a sata SSD either 2.5" or m.2, don't really bother with optane boost.

Doesn't matter what condition it's in, you still have warranty on it. Even if it's dead you'll get a new one.

If you're getting a new processor, you should be getting Coffee Lake (if you're going Intel).
