[ADVICE] Monitor now and GPU later?

Joehockey90

Ok, I'm in an interesting predicament. My local MicroCentre has a pretty great sale on a monitor I have been eyeing up. Its 1440p 144hz and G-Sync. They issue is that I am still running a 980 because I am waiting until Volta drops or at least a big drop in 1080ti prices.

So, the question remains. Do you guys think I should snag the monitor because of the deal and put up with not being able to really enjoy it until I have a greater GPU? OR wait and get both at a later date (considering monitor prices may drop a bit as tech moves forward)?

I'm pushing it as long as I can. That's the thing. I will wait until Volta drops for Nvidia before giving in on a new GPU. And considering Volta isn't announced yet...

I'd get the monitor now while its on sale, can't see the prices dropping anytime in the future. We're probably going to be waiting a while for 4k 60+hz, which is the only time I could see 1440p 144hz monitors dropping in price.

You make a good point ACE, but I can't shake that feeling of Nvidia delaying Volta a little bit because Vega didn't "scare" them enough, and watching the monitor I thought was a great deal end up cheaper by the time I snag a new GPU.

Alright, I'm going with the monitor. I was doing some searching and the deal is too good to pass up right now. Just called and the one I had them put on hold this morning is still there. Thanks for the help guys.
