Which Ryzen to pair with GTX 1060 6gb?

Hi everyone, I am looking to upgrade my CPU from my current amd fx 8350, to a Ryzen cpu, as the 8350 is a bit behind at the moment. I was planning on grabbing the Ryzen 5 1600x, but was just curious to see if that matches pretty well with the 1060, or if I should go up or down a notch.

I primarily use my computer to play games, but also use it for editing so I am not too bothered in going with Intel for a clear game performance boost. Plus I think AMD is just darn neat.

I will of course be upgrading my Motherboard to AM4, and my RAM to ddr4 to match and I think the one's I have picked will do just fine. So it's really just a question about the CPU. I don't have to worry about SLI and don't plan to overclock, but if you have any other suggested alternatives for Motherboard or Ram feel free to leave them.

Thanks a ton for any comments and helping out on my first post here.

Feel free to let me know if there is any additional information that would be useful to leave for future posts.

Looking to Purchase:

AMD Ryzen 5 1600x 6-core 3.6 ghz

Asus prime A320M-k Am4 Motherboard

G.Skill Ripjaws 16gb 288 pin DDr4 2666 (dual sticks)

Current Setup:

AMD Fx 8350 Black Edition

EVGA GeForce GTX 1060 (6GB)

Gigabyte GA-78LMT-USB3

Crucial 8GB DDR3 (single stick)

650 Watt power supply

I'd recommend a 1600 as it has a cooler included (and a good one at that, also keep in mind there's extra cost for a cooler with a 1600X), and maybe upgrade the motherboard to a B350, which allows overclocking in case you ever want to do it in the future (light overclocking is easy enough that you only have to change the multiplier number)

Frostbite (White build PC)

Spoiler

MSI B350M Mortar Arctic - Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 GHz - Corsair H60 - ASUS GTX 1060 3GB DUAL OC @ (2130 MHz Core Clock + 4600 MHz Mem Clock)

2x8GB 3200MHz Corsair Vengeance C16 Corsair 400C White - EVGA 650 GQ

R5 1600 paired with a B350 board like the ASUS strix one or at least the ASRock AB350 Pro 4 would be a better choice. Don't get a A320 board.

Oh I did forget to mention that I do have the Coolermaster 212 Evo if that may change your opinion at all. Some of the B350's aren't too much more either so I will definitely keep that in mind if you think it's worth the bit extra.

Thanks for replying

Thanks for the board suggestions, since the ASRock isn't too much more I will definitely take it into consideration. I am curious about not getting the A320 board though, is it a performance loss or just a feature loss that you wouldn't suggest it?

I believe the difference is so little (under 30 dollars) thatit's worth it in the long run. I'd recommend the upgrade over the 1600X, especially since the 212 Evo will do just fine cooling it (Ryzen chips are rather chilly, mine runs overclocked to 3.9 GHz on stock voltage and never hits more than 60C, and that is with a 120mm AIO water cooling loop)

Well thanks so much to both of you for responding. I think I'll go for the 1600 and use that difference I saved to upgrade the board. After hearing your suggestions I looked up some benchmarks and didn't see too significant a gap in the two processors so I think that will be my best bet.

Really appreciate the help

~Ben

Sorry for my late reply. B350 boards allow you to overclock your Ryzen CPU but you can't overclock with an A320 board. Therefore you can get more performance with a B350 baord.
