So with my computer, I have a 500GB Samsung 850 Evo for my boot drive, and all my startup programs, as well as FL Studio, while I have a 1.1Tb SSD Crucial MX300 for any games that benefit from fast load-in times; mostly online games.

Anyway

I was playing Ghost Recon Wildlands last night with a few friends, and one of my friends would load in (fast travel, respawning, etc) significantly faster than me — I'm talking like, 25 seconds faster than me — when having the game installed on his 850 Evo.

So what I want to know is if it really is that huge of a difference for gaming (It's normal) or if it's something else.

Thanks. <3

It might have something to do with the SSD, although I feel like it would have more to do with internet

Sounds like a network issue that would cause that much of a difference. In theory, when you're loading anything from the disk, it would be a bit faster, but not nearly that level of increase. I store some games on an NVMe ssd and the only difference it seems to make is that the initial load to the title screen is a bit faster.

Is there anything else that might cause it? Aside from it being slower when it comes to fast travelling, my friend (with the game installed on the 850 Evo) has significantly slower internet than me. His internet plan is 30mbs a second, while mine is 300.

My modem and router aren't an issue either, since I have no packet loss, and speed tests are all 280mbs+.

Neither of those internet plans should get bottlenecked by most games. I have never played that game, but perhaps the fast travel is loading the map off the disk in real time, in which case, an SSD should make a bigger difference.

Alright, cool. I know the MX300 is slower than the 850 Evo, but I didn't think it'd be that big of a difference.
