GTX 970 vs GTX 1060?

Hi, I am looking for a budget graphics card for entry level VR (Oculus, if you were wondering). I have selected the GTX 970 and the, newer, GTX 1060. The 970 is cheaper (At about £150, around $200 USD) but less powerful than the 1060 (£185, around $245 USD). Which should I chose?

Thanks

The 6 GB 1060 I'd say.

Last time I checked, the 1060 was a lot faster, faster than the 980 in some tests, admittedly it's been a few months since I looked, but ye, don't get the 970, they were great on release, but the 1060 is a lot better IMO

Well gtx 1060 is newer and knowing Nvidia they'll discontinue older product. So to be safe i would choose the 1060. However take the 6 gb one or it wouldn't be worth it at all

9% in the witcher 3

11% in bf1 ,  no its not quicker then a 980 or equal to :P 980 is quicker xD ( 980 is like 10%-15% quicker than 1060 ) < same for 1060 vs 970 :P

Ok so it seems to go in order (from worst to best) 1060 (3GB), 970, 1060 (6GB). Correct?

no i'd still pretty confidently say its 1060 3GB, 970, 1060 6GB. Keep in mind the gtx 970 has 3.5 GB of vram and the .5 is slower vram

Out of the box? Maybe yes but when both overclock it perform quite similar.

SMP is dead so 1060 won't perform much better in VR compare to 970.

Interesting results, I had a pair off 970's on water, 1518mhz was the fastest I could hit. I don't know too much about VR, but one thing someone else will say will be "3.5gb vram", I never experienced this slow down that people refer to, I think I took a very specific set of circumstances to experience it and much like SLI, I think the rumour got spread by word of mouth rather than personal experience
